  • earn money through lottery (no card info necessary)

I mean, how fucking stupid do you have to be to be buying lottery tickets? It appears that the entire US population turned out last night to buy tickets, lottery officials were astounded to see ticket sales hitting $1 Million dollars PER MINUTE. Aren't these the same people who have been whining about gas @ $3 gallon and that there are no jobs available, yet we have enough cash to go buy a lottery ticket where odds of winning the jackpot are greater than you getting attacked by a shark and grizzly bear on the same day? If there is a bigger case of conspicuous consumption I am not aware of it. Even my wife bought some tickets home (a first at our house), but her excuse was that she is blonde and has big tits. A friend tried to use the ‘but the money goes to the schools’ logic but that doesn’t fly with me. I am not sure how each state does this, but I know exactly how my state does. They market it as ‘the education lottery’ but the truth is that while they do direct lottery money into the school budget, they also took the original funding and moved it to other state crap. So it isn’t like there is new, extra monies going into the school system, the whole ‘education lottery’ is a farce. Come on America, stop throwing your money away or STFU about the bad economy and gas prices.

Agreed. I think the lottery is a poison. People earning money for absolutely no reason at all just promotes irresponsibility and incompetence. I weep for this country filled with idiots.

          but on a related note

the amount of money that my dad could have saved from not buying any lottery tickets throughout his entire life could have gathered collectively to pay for my college tuition

but I can't talk, I spend money on useless things like video games and drugs

I put in $1 for our pool at work just because it would suck if the 50 other people who put in $1 actually won.

                    Eph, I completely agree.

However, I can make an argument FOR buying lottery tickets. My provincial lottery (649) has odds of winning about 1 in 14 million. If the jackpot is over 20 million, you are presumably getting a better return than any bank will give you so it's an investment, albiet one you will probably never see returned.

I've always wondered why someone hasn't created a program that buys all the potential numbers when the jackpot is sufficiently high. You will bump the jackpot up and be certain to win. Of course, a problem arises when multiple people start winning.

That said, I've never bought a lottery ticket.

oh, I calculated the odds of winning mega millions at 1 in 180 million (wow) but the jackpot was a few multiples of that, right?

although i've never bought a lottery ticket. I don't agree with this stuff about the chances of winning are roughly equal to getting sodomized by a polar bear twice in rural sudan or whatever. Clearly, someone is winning. So clearly, some weird almost improbable thing is happening, however unlikely.

I don't what the big deal is about spending 2 dollars for the chance to win 300 million, my wife got two tickets in an office pool even though we never buy any tickets or anything. Sorta not a big deal unless two dollars is alot to you.
