TWLB Hot or Not -- WEEK 2

    Dudgeon vs. Revenge
    15:00-14:36
Match of the Week - TIED

This was a nail-biter, as Dudgeon came out of the gate strong, with solid spidering from Dreamwin (125-82), Zizzo (131-88, 3 teks), Melanoma (116-91, 3 teks), and Sakke (97-68), with my personal favorite gilder (79-57) making his debut LB start at under, showing a marked improvement in overall FR battle play for the finnish squad, even without megaman89.

Dudgeon took advantage of some bad mistakes that Alterra <ER> (31-9, 4 teks) made, getting ahead to a 10-7 lead. The tide shifted when Downfall (3.0 RPD) was subbed out for Menelvagor (2.8 RPD, 1 tek) at that point, having an instant impact and breaking cram and getting a TD.

Despite the setback and incurring a 12-10 deficit to a strong Revenge cram, Dudgeon managed to claw their way back against the formidable spider lineup of Kian (148-76), glavitik (119-51), squallFF8 (110-57), M_M God (108-76), and hellkite (109-78).

Cig (2.7 RPD, 1 tek) battled hard against nokkonen (2.9 RPD) and Pardon (2.6 RPD), as a fiery flagroom battle raged on, Alterra again steadying himself in the late game against a superior Mikkiz (30-9, 1 tek) as Dudgeon managed a tek at around 13-14, needing 2 minutes to hold cram for a victory.

They had two chances at it but were unable to hold, and the ensuing FR duel will go down in history as one of the most riveting and unblinking in TWLB. Despite overwhelming odds, Mikkiz ported onto the flag with 5 seconds left, then re-ported again seconds later as the enemy force ripped Dudgeon apart, only for Mikkiz to re-port again and grab the flag, then again! It was one of the most harrowing terrier peformances in a one-minute span as anyone had ever seen, and it almost worked, but alas Mikkiz couldn't green a port and Alterra finally finished him off alongside a stronger numerical advantage, putting the heart-stopping game to a close.

Not only that, but NL>Trigger recorded the game, so Mikkiz's heroics will be available on Youtube at some point for everyone to enjoy! An excellent showing from Dudgeon, but again Revenge managed to edge out their opponent for a second week in a row.

MVP: menelvagor, clutch sub-in down 10-7, shifting the tide of battle, instant impact, and a tek
Honorable Mention: Mikkiz, for one of the most ridiculously amazing feats of terring in the final minute and solid all-around play

    Cobra vs. Sage
    15:00-14:25
Match of the Week -- TIED

Another thriller, this one pitted two undefeated squads in a hotly contested match as Sage was unable to hold multiple leads it held during the game.

Like the other Match of the Week, one of the big storylines was the inequity in terring, as an in-form Chiev Utsav (38-6, 4 teks) who'd been active practicing to make his long-awaited return to TWLB action, got the better of the legendary Zizu (48-11, 0 teks), who'd been absent from play all week, making uncharacteristic mistakes.

Led by Tabarnak!!! (3.0 RPD) and Superstar-PROkiller (2.9 RPD), Sage managed to take an early lead with wbm (123-74), Stayon (109-57), NL>Trigger (113-68), Ogron (92-54) and Kawrae (88-56) leading the charge.

There was a good balance of exchanges, from tight FR battles and medium-length cram holds for each side, and despite falling back 14-13 near the end, necromotic (110-85), infrared (110-71), renzi (107-70), Murder (82-69) and turban (81-61) managed to remain resolute and break cram and manage a tek.

Creature (2.9 RPD) and Dwopple (3.0 RPD, 3 teks) played excellent, with Dwopple landing multiple clutch FR teks despite at a disadvantage in the FR as Sage outkilled Cobra 604-546.

Ultimately Cobra was able to hold cram in the final seconds to clinch the victory.

MVP: Chief Utsav, 38-6 with an impressive 4 teks

    Pandora vs. Raid
    15:00-2:01

Compared to the two aforementioned games, which provided plenty of spectacle for basing fans, the final two matches were real snoozers, this one in particular.

Pandora sat the majority of their starters, but you wouldn't know it given the score and the strong play of Ease (82-29), Leitz (73-38), Dsin (63-25), Kate Upton (58-19) and Children (70-28), with mcvicar (3.1 RPD, 1 tek) and Zidane (3.0 RPD, 1 tek) providing some top-notch sharking to seal the deal.

Amputate played a great, positionally sound (albeit safe) game, notching a nice 14-0 ace in terr (0 teks, 0 FCs ), leaving Raid little room to make any gains.

To their credit, Raid had the class to show despite the massive baser defections, as Reaver (23-10) took on terring duties behind dsb (2.5 RPD) and dald (2.6 RPD, 6 FCs). Unfortunately, they were outclassed in the spidering department as their entire line, save Lifter (51-41), went negative.

Hopefully Raid will stick it out -- they have a lot of talented multi-ship players who could give some of the less stacked squads a good run for their pub bux.

MVPs: mcvicar/Zidane for some excellent 3.0+ RPD play and clockwork timing

    Sweet vs. Spastic
    15:00-6:37

Sweet opened their TWLB season with a win as Burnt (39-3, 3 teks) continues to impress, following up his pre-season ace with an MVP as he continues to be his squad's go-to terr (thank you for the TWLM points )

Hulk (3.2 RPD, 1 tek) and LF (2.9 RPD) took on sharking duties, as Jack (94-42), sphinx (94-38), eelam (72-43), zeebu (75-40), and Engineers (62-46) made short work of their opponent.

For their part, Spastic managed to put some time on the board thanks to a strong performance from Jamal (97-56), but Public Assassin (67-48), Sulla (62-40), CJW (47-67) and TJ Hazuki (42-49) weren't able to match the superstars numbers behind the sharking of Celly (2.6 RPD) and Gran Guerrero (2.6 RPD) and fell to a strong performance from Sweet.

[b]MVP: Burnt, another fantastic terring performance

    Next Week:

Round 3 will see Penetrate back in action against Sage, as the two juggernauts will feel each other out in light of a possible playoff matchup. Sage faces Penetrate, Pandora and Revenge in succession, so the next few weeks will dictate how their season will shape up. Raid has the unenvious task of taking on the undefeated Revenge, who continue to amass 15-14 victories in succession.

Pandora plays host to Spastic, as the two-time finalists continue their easy early schedule, while Dudgeon, fresh off an excellent performance against tough-as-nails Revenge will take on Sweet, who've yet to be tested.

Penetrate/Sage and Dudgeon/Sweet are the ones to watch -- hopefully they're not scheduled at the same time.

I'm not here next week, so maybe someone else can write the TWLB HoN

Err... can't edit for some reason. Corrections:

-Mixed up Dudgeon/Revenge order in the games title, Revenge should be listed first as they won.
-"[...]Mikkiz couldn't green a burst" (not port)
-Didn't properly bold the MVP of the Sweet/Spastic game
