I am with Shaddow on this. I'm afraid I would have done the same as Azov unfortunately. I've been around long enough to have seen boobs, dick, and pussy banners. I remember Mega Newbie and Hece among some of them with dick banners, I think everyone had the Boobs banner on at one point. And I remember April had the vagina banner for a good 3-4 years. but rules are rules (and I dont make them). If I remember correctly didn't we prevent John_Adams from using the Boobs banner. He ended up making a nice little bikini for the boobs which was actually well done.

There are a lot of places I use discretion to make an informed decision, but this isn't one of them. I would have asked him to put on John_Adam's boobs + bikini banner.

It wasn't a memo to staff, I had an argument with the bang op at the time and stated I didn't want to see bans like that going through, banners were never part of the bang protocol (*except swastika or letters that made up racism) and I should know, I wrote most of them for quite a few years, and to be honest if u can tell a vagina on a 12 by 8 pixel banner then im extremely impressed. As I have said, short of a photo being included of a banner, or someone manages to make a banner look like someone groping a pair of breasts, which I don't see how it would be possible, then I don't see how they could be deemed by their very nature pornographic. Either way this is no longer an issue since I have had words, and hopefully this time the message is given to all staff members, as I wouldn't want lack of communication to be an excuse.

its not azov that's the issue, para confirmed he would do the same. The only way to fix any issues is to sort out the root cause of the issue, in this case it would be the wording of the bang protocol - you don't remove someone for following what they are told too. Left_Eye needs to update the bang manual to reflect the above is all. Azov actually spoke to me after the event, and clearly stated he didn't want to warn for it, but had to follow the rules, you don't remove someone for that.

Building on what Demonic said, the real issue here is policy, rules, and procedures staff follows when confronting issues that come up. It's not the moderator that's at fault generally, it's the rule. It feels good as a player to "take to the streets" to protest a moderator ad hominem, and getting others who know even less to add their two cents. It's firey, vicious, and powerful; but at the end of the day, it's a valueless proposition because it's the rule that's the problem, not the staffer. So if a player feels wronged by a particular action, the lens to look through is one analyzing the rule....that will yield results. Case in point, Demonic recognized that her mandates regarding banners were not conveyed to staff; so she stepped in, and corrected the policy so everyone knows.

My goal on a daily basis is to work with players and avoid having to issue warnings or ban people. I feel education produces favorable results more so than enforcement. In fact, in the last month, I've only had to ban one person, and only issued two warnings total, out of nearly 200 separate situations I dealt with. Reason being is pulling a player aside and talking works a lot better and a majority of problems can be resolved that way. Many moderators can boast similar statistics. And they should.
