I was talking in current issues today when we were thingking what do you guys think is more envirnmental? washing dishes or using paper plates?

Water is finite.

Potable water is the problem here--not grand total "water". You can remove the salt from sea-water, but the fact is that there isn't currently an efficient way to do so--enough energy is consumed in the process that it isn't economical.

(EDIT: "Palatable" works too, but "potable" was the word I was reaching for.)

The name of that engine is called the Sterling Engine, Kaman (inventor of the segue) is currently developing an efficient design of the Sterling Engine.

Then there's also the hydrogen cars that will relatively be here soon. Their only by product is water.

Water never leaves the atmosphere, you can't tell me that all the land will be without water.

A) The device is called SEGWAY. One is a word used to make a transition directly from one section/theme to another, one is a marketable product. Actually, the device itself is called the Human Transporter--Segway is the name of the company.

B) The idea of a Stirling (again, STIRLING, not Sterling) engine has been around for quite some time (1816, I believe). If it's going to make as huge of an impact as you think it will, why hasn't anyone done anything with them for almost two centuries?

C) Mainstream hydrogen cars won't be here anytime soon--try like 20 years minimum. There's the not-so-small matter of infrastructure to handle refueling that hasn't quite been tackled, not to mention the fact that production of consumable liquid hydrogen isn't economical. Oil companies are also going to fight it's adoption the entire way. Why don't you think more day-to-day energy isn't produced through solar/wind/hydrogen power? Because oil companies won't make the money they're used to. And since oil is tied in with government, there won't be any laws aggressively pressing the adoption of alternative fuels any time soon.

D) Again, we're talking about potable water--the kind you can drink and not die from. There's a HUGE difference.

The process for making fuel for hydrogen cars burns coal, so for the time being, driving a regular car is better for the environment.
