file-sharing ....fear it?

tell everyone that has it 2 burn all there shit on cds. delete the songs on ur hard drive, and erase the program. because in 9 days the feds are demanding that all the isps hand over anyone one who has downloaded any of those programs

In the US ISP have started handing over evidence of a few 1000 people sharing music and other media. They will then be prosocuted by law.


This set date thing you've heard of, it sounds fake and I don't think they planned on prosecuting every single person who wants to download media, it was more of a deterrent since I've heard on CNN of a 5 year jail sentance and 250k American?


In Kazaa Lite or K++ or other P2P goto transfer and disable sharing of files with other users. Someone told me that, that will help but they will probably be looking under both upstream and down stream for your connection. Deleting files off your hard drive really seems pointless. They know what you have been viewing, why throw away all your files when there's a small chance you'll be caught?

Edit:No your hard drive won't be reformatted remotely by your ISP for sharing illegally stolen media, but there is a chance that your ISP will give your download and upload info to the police if requested at random.

heheh yeah i wouldnt believe anything i got like that in an IM. one time i got friggen 20 im's in one day saying that aim would be closing its free services and your account would be deleted andyou would have to sign up for a pay account if u did not send the message to 20 people.

I'm 99% sure they can't see a history of what you've already done, the only way they can prosecute is by what you're doing right now.

now.. if that's true, disabling file sharing greatly increases your chances of being safe, but if you d/l from someone, I'm pretty sure they can see what else you have. That might depend on the program, not sure.

I'm pretty sure the only way to be totally safe is to disable file sharing and then only share with people you know.

When I'm d/ling from people that I don't know, I use a secondary profile that doens't have any files in the d/l directory.

From what I've read, it's music that is shared (shouldn't have used the word Media, Sorry). It doesn't have to do with a cop downloading off of you. This is your ISP (Internet service provider) being told by law they have to give over a number of people (at random) who have been sharing illegal stolden music. Then they are prosecuted for stealing ect.... whatever pos law they've come up with.

This whole thing is about the RIAA so i'm sure they won't care if you're dling movies and stuff (until the movie industry starts their own little coalition if they haven't already). All this is in the US as of right now but i'm not 100 % sure.

You'd think it would be a better idea for them to go after the people that upload huge amounts of copyrighted media to other people, than to go after Jimmy-Bob who downloads a few Garth Brooks songs once and a while.
