OH YEAH!!! The really sad thing is 1/4 of the arena maybe more were Leafs fans.. well considering how loud we all were when the comeback materialized and in overtime... what a great game.

As for seeing the Stanley Cup, I've seen all of that before... they have them all at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, and yes I was there when the actual cup was there, they actually put it beside the replica one that they have if someone else is using the Cup.

In the past the cup didn't have a guy tending to it all the time. They gave it to the winning team for the year until the next year when someone else won it. So yah those Montreal Canadiens actually lost it in a river one year long ago, and I think it was after another one of those silly moments the NHL decided the cup was too important to not have a guy guarding it and only 1 day per player

Heh... people would be surprised at some of the stuff that happens to the cup. Unlike other sports trophies, members of the winning teams get to actually keep the cup for a day and take it anywhere they want and do anything they want with it (within reason; the NHL wouldn't like it if it was melted down and made into a set of spoons.)

There's this one guy, named Mike Bolt, and he's the official keeper of the Stanley Cup. Wherever it goes, he goes, and I'm sure that many Canadians would say that he has the best job in the world.

The NHL All-Star game is here in Minneapolis, MN this weekend, along with all the nifty NHL shit. Just got back from the NHL All-Star Experience, and holy shit was it cool!

Not only did they have a shit load of photo and equipment exhibits, they had what really was the only thing worth seeing. The trophies. All of them. The Lady Byng, Conn Smythe, The "Rocket" Richard, The Norris, The Lester Patrick, all of them. And of course mother fucking Lord Stanley's Cup.

I had seen the cup before in Denver, CO... but this time I got a pic taken with it $$$$. Never realized how much interesting history there was behind the Cup. Like the time it was dropped in a river, or when the Montreal Canadians left it on a roadside after a flat tire was changed.

Perhaps the coolest thing of all, is that these trophies aren't remade each year like the NFL or other major sports. They're passed on to the next winner, with replicas given to the past winners. Fucking tight.

PS- The Herb Brooks Memorial was dedicated today, with the unveiling of a massive statue in his honor. We're gonna miss ya Herbie!
