I've read it to the end and I respect PL's motivation and his courage.
I think overall you did a good job as Dean because most people do underestimate it. A lot can still be done, and I'm actually trying stuff out as I am studying computer sciences (lots of programming/webdesign etc.)

I also have another idea and I'm talking about that with cRazi, but we'll see how that'll go.

I gotta agree with Eric. I feel i'm a pretty decent staff member, i'm like 6th in hosts this month, which is pretty good considering i spent part of the month as a ZH and part of it on vacation, and I can't help but feel that if I was offered a staff position years ago I could have done a lot more for the zone. I know some people don't like ZH's just using it as a stepping stone to ER, and clearly nobody is more guilty of that than me. I really really really didn't like being a ZH. Heck, as a ZH I had more hosts than a lot of ER's, and I think the most help calls I took in a month was like 20 But if ZH isn't going to be a stepping stone to ER, that would mean you're either considering
A) a new staff position for people who don't want to ZH, but want to Host. Like a Mini-ER, since we wouldn't want to grant them all the ER powers right away.
B)I actually forget what I wanted to say for B. Other than asking people to make a choice about whether they'd like to be a ZH or ER, and I don't think thats a fair question. Since they'd be making an uninformed decision, because they hadn't expereienced either. I thought for sure I would have prefered being a ZH, but clearly I would have been wrong.

I completely agree with Pure_Luck when he said Zone Helper should not be a stepping stone to ER and then to Mod. I feel the focus should be on recruiting people who want to start and remain as Zone Helpers or ER's instead of players who want to get on staff for other reasons. Current staff members should also be proactive when it comes to recruitment. Go out and find players who would make good staff members, don't wait for them to come to you.

We actually have currently few ZH's who will stay ZH's till they get to mod, anzu did this before (my time) and some others that I just now cant remember. Then we had one guy who only wanted to be ZH and take calls.

And by going out to find good staff members, we actually have pretty good system now with staff applications, I just recruited one guy from it again.
300+ applications sent in this far, I've red every one of them and I will keep looking up for more. We got good amount of twdev people from there too.

Nick, I feel like ZH position is this mini-ER already, after two weeks being on staff he can choose from 6 arenas to host (manually) after they have been trained for it, then we have zhbot which is granted to those who will soon to become ER's and learns to use twbot kinda of bot (not so many modules), you can call it soft landing to ER.
