Of course they can, it's easy I did it

Before you go about trying to join a squad, there are three basic philosophies you can follow.

          1) Join a squad because you consider them good, and you like playing with good people because you like winning.

This is simple.... Figure out for yourself what you want to participate in, what you like. Do you like playing in pub? Find a good pub squad. Do you like basing? Do you like warbirds, or javelins? Do you want to play in TWD or go all the way to TWL?

Remember that if you join a league squad, the better the squad, the better the players and the better you need to be to get to actually play games for them. Are you willing to take the time and effort to be really good yourself? Or are you content with never playing? Will you be content with joining a squad that is less skilled, but is closer to your skill level so you get more playing time?

After you decide that, joining the squad is easy. Play in elim. Play in tournaments, play in big deathmatches or WW3. Play in games and play the best you can every single time. Watch how other good players play, see what they do, learn from them. Apply your skills, try and win every time you play. If you have it in you, you will get better, and someone will notice you. If not you can always just beg to join every squad until someone takes you in, although you'll basically guarantee that most squads won't take you cause everyone hates people who BEG.

          2) Join a squad that you have friends on.

Do you talk a lot in team chat or pub chat? Have you made friends in this game? Do you know people?

If you answered yes, then friends are always a great way to join a squad. Make friends with people, join their squad. If the squad dies, at least you'll still have your friends there, and maybe you and them will start your own squad, or you will have a large enough group to keep your current squad alive. You'll also have a lot of fun too playing with friends. Your friends may suck at Subspace, but if you have fun isn't that what counts? If you want friends who get good scores, then make friends who can get good scores

          3) Create your own squad.

Why not? If you have the time and the will, creating your own squad is always fun. I have no idea what kinds of experiences you've had in your life, but running a squad is definately a learning experience. It's fun, you'll meet lots of interesting people, and you will get that good feeling that you built something. The downside is that it's a lot of work. Could be more fun if you can start a squad with some friends.

Okay, now that you know the basic philosophies, don't be afraid to mix them, or just go for one. Figure out what you want from this game and persue it.

Don't want to join a squad that will die? Make a plan. Do some research into some squads you might want to join. Figure out their history, their members, how their squad is. Find one that's right for you. Don't just accept the first one that asks you or join the first one that asks.

I've personally tried all three before, and each has been a rewarding and unique experience. So go for it.

I'm still surprised this thread is still going.

            Sweet.

Anyway, I plan on trying to take a piece of everybody's advice, except gerry's. I don't like gerry.

GERRY SHOULD BE SPELLED WITH A J AND NO ONE CAN TELL ME OTHERWISE!

Make my own squad? I would, but UberN00bs is already taken.

I'll check back in after a few weeks and let you guys know how I'm doing.

Agreed. Off topic: After talking with some new basers (well... more new than me), one of the bigest problems is people having low frame rate and not knowing you can make it better.

If paladen is the squad that you want on, just sign up pallies, it's like their training squad. After you spend a few months on pallies, if you're lucky, they call you up to the big time.

Two weeks into SS and whytefang found me and got me into a recute squad for NS, not sure if any other squads do that but i would think so.

Change your nick to a dictionary word with no more than 6 characters, play as much in elim as you can. Join any squad that asks you, untill you are in the best squad in Trench Wars, then change squads some more. Don't talk in public, only on chats and private messages.

                              or,

Create a squad and get as much people on as possible and let them all change their nick to yours +extension, like Zerzera Gold, Zerzera Ace. Then lame people as much as possible in big swarms.

And don't forget, being squadcaptain is the best there is, so better start your own squad. And don't join any squad unless you get to recruit people.

Just focus on getting better rather then getting on a good squad. If u do get on a good squad and u cant keep up, u will probably not get any playing time and u might even get axed which can ruin ur rep. Getting better is still the best bet - eventually some squad will notice you, and then you'll start moving up the ladder.

If you want playing time and join a decent squad, go join a new squad. Usually, they dont have enuff players and are desperate to recruit. This gives u playing time and some new "friends".

Dont forget, the most important aspect on getting on good squads is how good YOU are. Go practice in arenas like elim/baseelim/and base. Playing in pubs is also good for aiming and to practice base skills.

                                Good Luck!
