Yea you should be turning off sysrestore for any virus removal. All the newest ones are integrated in the startup so its a never-ending cycle.

I'm a college student which means I should get a free copy of McAfee, but I don't. Instead we get this wankarse StarOffice app. I'm gonna go buy a gun for school tomorrow.

ahhhh. finally. If you wanna know what I did:

    disabled system restore
    enable windows XP firewall
    download "stinger" (McAfee thingy)
    download this patch
    reboot
    install Microsoft patch
    reboot in safe mode
    run Stinger
    reboot

yeah, i found the @stop shutdown@ thing. I've tried almost every sasser/blaster worm removal tool I can find. I've even re-re-formatted but not even that fixed it. How can I get a virus with a clean computer?

Well to stop the shutdown process you can go to Start -> Run and type "shutdown -a" and hit Run. I think then you should get all the Windows updates and look around a bit on the net. Do a virus scan and look for some Sasser worm fixes because that sounds a lot like it.

    LSA Shell (Export Version) error

I just re-formatted my compuer (I have Windows Xp Pro) but I keep getting the "LSA Shell (Export Version): error that comes up. Then a few seconds later I get that annoying shutdown in 60 seconds error. I've tried SO many things to try and get rid of this virus. I really don't know what to try now... help!

BTW, how can I switch my keyboard settings to UK? They are stuck on in US and some of the keys are different.
Working...
