  • I've busted my pooter

So I went onto download.com to try and get a cd ripper, got one but I downloaded about 3/4 of the buggers, and now whenever I turn my pooter on its really slow and I can't use my start menu for two hours, whenever I put my cursor over it I get the hourglass. Any ideas?

Well pardon me for not being computer literate but I have had better things to do in my childhood.

It might be something to do with a file called rundll32.exe or run32dll.exe, one of the two. I deleted it. Is it important? And if so, can someone bust me over a copy? I thought it was spyware trying to immitate a normal file but it might actually be a normal file.

First, try to uninstall so much as you can of the programs just installed. Then, a virusscan, cleaning up your temporary files and use of adaware could help the problem.

And yes, rundll32 is a part of your system files. Restore it from your windows CDrom!

It turns out I didn't delete it which is handy. Someone told meto do a defrag which cut the timethe start menu dies for from 2 hours to 5 mins, but the pooters still bloody slow

For future reference if this ever happens to anyone: Hit start, run, type msconfig and a window will appear. Hit the startup tab along the top of the window which shows all the programs which load wen you turn your computer on, and then uncheck all the boxes except for your antivirus software.
