TWL-B Week 5: HOT or NOT

Disclaimer: As we enter the TWL-B season 23 playoffs, this will be the final HOT or NOT by Pressure. Thank you for tuning in and for your feedback.

Week 5 Preview: After an exciting week 4, the fight for the 4th playoff spot ensues. If Spastic wins both games and beats Fire approximately 15-3, they make playoffs. Can they do it?

    Spastic vs. Pandora (15:00 – 6:42) | LINK

Review: Spastic absolutely needed this win since no squad was willing to take the sexual offerings they were proposing in exchange for thrown games. Both squads used their typical lines, with the exception of tj hazuki who played for diakka this match.

The game started with a quick TeK by Tim on Zizu, who was left wide open after pandora spiders forced JAMAL to rep precipitously (0:45). Zizu again plundered at 1:30 to spider bullets, essentially giving Pandora free reign in cram. Pandora held a strong opening cram, but the moment it broke, Spastic established complete flagroom control. Tim couldn’t get close to flag, JURASSIC and Lupin dominated under, and Undercut was a sensation, completely destroying over flag and running amok on renzi, sarger, and MousE, ultimately TeK’ing an overwhelmed Tim (see Plays of the game).

Spastic sharks looked great in cram and combined with their spiders’ excellent corner coverage completely abnegated the strength of sarger and Pandora’s cram break. After his initial failures, Zizu stepped up and ended up playing a consistently solid game, though his team was the dominant factor in this game. Joeses was making some questionable plays this game, like at 9:50-10:07, where he repped early, failed to die, and caused Markmrw to rep early. Spastic mauled Pandora in this one, and it’s easy to point fingers when you look at Joeses’ 2.6 RPD and Tim’s 10 deaths.

The game became a snooze fest so I skipped to the point where Spastic was in the lead 11-4, as it took Pandora forever to enter flagroom. I can not bring myself to harp on Tim’s numerous botches, but how can you possibly get such a nice clearly aimed TeK on Zizu (see Plays of the game), and just die to spider bullets seconds later with most of your team alive at 16:35? Mistakes like that will keep Pandora out of finals. tj hazuki and Azuline got smoked under, both statistically and in-game, by JURASSIC and Lupin, but they didn’t have much of a chance considering the disaster that was Pandora’s over coverage.

Pandora held a 1 minute cram and Zizu had a lag burst repped into him by porkjet, but after they entered and regained flag control, Spastic put the icing on the cake.

    HOT: Undercut (98-42, 2 TeK)
    NOT: Tim (29-10, 3 TeK); Joeses (4-96, 1 TK, 0 TeK, 2.6 RPD)
Plays of the game: Undercut breaks cram, completely dominates top bar, rushes and pressures Tim in left ear from over flag, forces Joeses to rep, recovers right side, holding right ear and continuing to apply pressure, ultimately amassing 59 bounty before being taken down (3:00-4:21); big under sequence by JURASSIC (11:45-12:20); clutch TeK on Zizu by Tim (16:30-16:36); great over push by MousE, who takes advantage of an oversight under rush by JAMAL and gets the shark doa and TeK on Zizu (18:20-18:35)

    Fire vs. Spastic (15:00 – 13:56) | LINK

Review: This was the most important game of the season. After beating Pandora, Spastic needed to win and keep Fire to under roughly 3 minutes in order to make the playoffs.

Both teams fielded their usual lines, with the exception of Spastic who used wbm for an absent Stayon and Fire who used Ra for an absent hellkite. Fire looked dominant at the start, with kado holding under alone and ro shifting back and forth to stack top as the fourth over. This game actually started to turn around after some nice top openings created by JURASSIC’s under camp shot. Both teams looked hungry to win this one, if not for a playoff spot, for bragging rights. Just by the start of the game I could tell it would be a very evenly spread match across all ships. Neither team clearly dominated top, under or cram. Zizu’s death at 6:15 while seemingly typing was inexcusable. Zizu> EEEEEEEE is right. His next death at 7:45 was unlucky though. I was glad to see Spastic didn’t completely lose faith in the game at 4:00 after confirming they didn’t make playoffs.

This game became a game that Spastic could have won if Zizu just stayed alive early on rather than be Fire's best player. Every time they had a chance to control and tried to set up he died. Around the 11-4 point, in an otherwise even game on paper that also looked even in game, claushouse out-survived Zizu and was acing him at least 30-0 at one point with 478 bounty. Zizu continued to die in unsafe locations to rushing spiders or to shraps, but ultimately got a very nice TeK on claus (see Plays of the game). This TeK caused a shift in Spastic, who started to show life and took control of the game, bringing the score to 12-7. ZIzu, who was started this game playing terribly and to Spastic’s detriment, took over and began to visibly shift his mindset to 1-on-1’ing claushouse. Spastic’s cram looked strong and they looked to make a comeback.

With burst after burst from Zizu who got claus again at 22:02, momentum favored spastic at the 13-10 mark. I should have mentioned it earlier, but Fire’s spiders were absolutely ridiculous this game after the game looked even at the start. Big numbers were put up this game. ro exploded for a 130-44 record with 2 TeK. TPZ and Ease also broke 120 kills. zidane put up a 3.0 RPD, 11 kills, and 2 TeK with only 1 TK. wbm filled in nicely for Stayon with 130 kills. Spastic took the lead at one point, with Zizu now at a 60-8 record (versus claushouse’s 47-5) and 420 bounty, but it wasn’t enough. ro dominated under and Ease dominated over. Spastic couldn’t break their rhythm in the final flagroom fight and after Fire regained the lead, kado forces a TeK on Zizu to finish the game (see Plays of the game).

Zizu was both the best and worst player this match, for both teams, and if not for his 6-8 deaths in the early/middle part of the game Spasic probably would have won. claushouse was more consistent and with great games from ro, Ease, and zidane, Fire won the game.

    HOT: ro (130-44, 2 TeK), Zizu (65-10, 4 TeK), claushouse (53-5, 1 TeK), zidane (11-125, 3.0 RPD, 2 TeK, 1 TK)
    NOT:
    Zizu (65-10, 4 TeK)
Plays of the game: Zizu rushes claushouse for a great in-your-face TeK (16:40-16:50); another nicely aimed burst by Zizu to regain control and continue Spastic’s momentum (20:10-20:17); nasty under rush by kado to force Zizu to warp into his game-finishing death (27:45-28:00)

Final hot or not, wait why no playoff ones?
Siaxis> yo it was way harder to kill Rage then beam in that dtd

rylo> 1.5 mil for whoever kills renzi
    (10 seconds later)
rEnZi is out. 17 kills 10 deaths. 2 players remain.
P TW-Pub> rylo sent you $1,500,000, you now have $4,047,199.

If you're going to do a thing you should to it to the best of your ability or don't do it at all.

I'll consider it, but it's a time sink.
