TWL has gone to shit...

For as much slack as Pascone's taken I'll admit he's actually done a pretty good job at running TWL. In fact, his only major mistake was with prohibiting certain squads from getting into TWL, despite them qualifying. There are numerous reasons for this but the most prominent one is that you'll upset many people by keeping them out of the league even though they qualified, sometimes even to the point where they won't play TWL anymore over it. In the same token, people that thought they didn't qualify will be happy now, but they certainly wouldn't be nearly as annoyed if they didn't make it into TWL, because they didn't make the qualification requirements and they knew this.

As for competition in TWLD, it's just as great now as it was many years ago, if not greater. People have had a longer amount of time to play the game, and based on your reaction time and physical limits, you can only become so good. A finite level of ability and an increasing length of time to play naturally means competition would become greater because squads would become closer in skill. The only real thing that's changed is that a few iconic players have quit and were replaced by people with newer names, so it feels like competition is dying, but it's not.

While the big name squads aren't really there anymore in TWLD, there are still a lot of skilled players in the league. This is just the reality of the situation. Remember when the Bulls had Michael Jordan? After he retired, the NBA doesn't stop. You have to keep playing the games, and new players arrive that show their worth.

IE:

Your skill will be maximized when the Marginal Skill Level is equal to Marginal Time Played.
That is, you will not get any better after a certain point even if you spend more time playing the game.

With that being said, competition will always occur; just a matter of who is displaying the skill. :P

If you think the game is dying because of a shitting season you must not watch any sports... shitty seasons happen and relatively often they just seem even more shitty when you spend a lot of your life playing this game. I bet shitty NBA seasons feel even more shitty to NBA players than they do to the fans. There have definitely been shitty TWL seasons before and will be more in the future, but the game is not dying.
