So i downloaded Peer block and utorrent what other items should i download besides the torrent? Also whats the leecher and the seeder i am so confusedddddddddd

You don't need peer blocker or any blocker because they don't work, what you download and share can be traced by your Internet Service Supplier (ISP) Regardless. But if you have time Warner or a big franchise, you shouldent have to worry much since there's so many people they wont check them all.

OK so you have utorrent.. which is the best torrent client In my opinion.

Now for seeds and peers.

Seeds (Seeders): Are the people that are seeding the files that you are downloading from, meaning.. if the seeder number is 40, that means 40 people in the world are sharing that movie you want to download from, thats where you download from, those people (Seeders)

Peers (Leechers): Are people like you who are trying to download the file, but have not fully downloaded the full file yet, they end up sharing parts of that file to others, but only those parts not the full file.

Theres only 2 Good torrent sites in my opinion that are safe. Demonoid and Kick ass Torrents.

Demonoid.me - Exclusive and you will need to be invited to join the site, but its the best one out there.

kat.ph - Free to public, second best in my choice.

you should use peer blocker because besides the fact that your ISP can record traffic, etc. if you connect to a bad peer (i.e. one that is a snitch for a record/movie/tv company) they have really good evidence that you were sharing, and they probably don't seed well :down:

When I lived in the dorms and used the university's internet I got caught by a TV company that contacted OSU. I got two simultaneous warnings and was told if I got caught torrenting again I'd lose my OSU internet privileges. Thank God I moved out a month later... but now I don't have OSU to protect my ass

copyright infringement notices coming from ISPs are, by and large, utter bullshit. it's a scare tactic passed on to you, the end user, after relentless pressure on the ISPs from organizations such as the MPAA and the RIAA. fuck those money grubbing assholes.

in all reality, no ISP is going to shut you off if you're just pirating a few movies now and again. in stark's case, he got about the worst you'll ever get. there are a few of the major ISPs who are caving to the relentless pressure and they will block certain websites on top of sending you a notice. we're not talking about blocking all of the web, though. they'll typically just block common filesharing sites.

now if you go balls to the wall and download hundreds and hundreds of movies a month, well that's a different story. and you're asking for it. you may well get shut off, and worse yet, you could end up the target of some greedy p2p lawyer who slaps you in the face with a lawsuit.

but again, your ISP is not going to shut you off if you're a casual p2p user. they send out these notices to cover their asses so when the MPAA or RIAA comes calling, they can say, "but look we warned them. we did our part." they absolutely don't want to sever ties with a paying customer.

i agree with DTF. use peerblocker. it doesn't work perfectly, but there is no perfect solution short of routing through a few proxies and that will kill your speeds.

btw panda, you're honestly better off being outside of OSU's network. universities are notorious pussies when it comes to copyright infringement. they don't want to get their hands dirty and will almost never protect anyone. they'll throw you to the wolves to avoid any bad publicity.

I got a bunch of notices from my ISP (Verizon) so I've switched from torrents to filestube.com (searches uploading and sharing sites like megaupload, filesonic, etc.) Don't have to worry about third parties monitoring your downloads and reporting you to your ISP. It's a lot slower than torrents (unless you pay like $10 a month for a subscription) so instead of 2MB per second I get like 400KB per second.

Ugh... to hell with 400KBps. Couldn't stand going that slow. I'm used to about 3 to 4MBps these days.

This is what happened to me about 5 years ago. Downloaded a copy of twisted metal 2 for pc(found out you could play multiplayer online) and got an email a couple days later.


I don't torrent nowadayz though, I stream everything, and one of my friends downloads all the latest movies and I just get them from him.
