  • McCain’s now trying to postpone the Palin-Biden debate!

Largely unnoticed in the initial hubbub over John McCain’s proposal to postpone the first presidential debate, scheduled for Friday night, is the fact that he also wants to indefinitely delay running mate Sarah Palin’s debate with her Democratic counterpart, Joe Biden.

Excuse me for being cynical, but this ostensible secondary angle casts the overall idea of postponing debates in a whole new light.

It’s no secret that Palin is not exactly ready for prime time, which is why the McCain camp has shielded her from regular exposure to questions from pesky reporters. Postponing her debate with Biden until some unspecified later date gives her more time for preparation and perhaps allows for creation of some pretext for scrubbing the debate altogether.

McCain’s proposed postponement of his first debate with Barack Obama already is viewed in some quarters as a political ruse – or a “Hail Mary pass,” as THIS PIECE in Business Week calls it — and the Palin angle only reinforces that perception.

How low can the GOP go? McCain doesn;t even sit on the Senate Banking Committee, so he really has ZERO say in any of this Bullshit in D.C other than using it as a photo-op and possible smokescreen from the fact that he is an idiot. Makes Bush look good!

You kind of made every point I was about to but I'm going to post anyway.

I read in the Boston Globe today that guy's quote about it being "the biggest throw in the history of hail mary's and throws" or whatever he said, and he's right. The fact is McCain is on the defensive now because of the economic collapse during a Republican presidency and for his statement afterwards where he said that, essentially, the economy was still going strong.

So, what he has to do is portray himself as more readily willing to try to solve the crisis than Obama is, thus proving that he's the fixer and the agent of change that the American people seem to be looking for. By saying "fixing the economy is more important than a political debate" McCain extends his (fake) appeal for bipartisanship and by Obama saying that "it's even more important now to hold the debate," the goal in the McCain camp would obviously be to portray him as an idealogue with no tangible plan.

Overall: The bigger the shitshow, the happier McCain is.

As far as Sarah Palin is concerned, she's the dumbest bitch to ever run for office. It's obvious her qualification for the VP candicy is her vagina and the fact that she opposes abortion and earmarks. Unfortunately, the dumb bitch also vouches for abstinence only education when her teenage daughter is pregnant and as Governer she only scrapped the "bridge to nowhere" program after the political uproar surrounding the project rendered it dead in the water.

Her meeting with all these world leaders this week only furthers the observation that she's just a no-substance puppet for the McCain camp, enlivining a dead campaign with whatever press she can get. Who meets world leaders with 40+ photographers in the room? And if you're going to do that, you should also let journalists in. (Originally the McCain camp said that no journalists would be allowed to be present, until the major news networks in the USA said they wouldn't use any of the footage unless it was allowed.) What's the biggest thing she's learned from all these leaders? Karzai just had a new baby boy! Thank God she has foreign policy experience now.

I could go on and on about what gripes me in this campaign, but I'm sure none of you care. But it's nice to type out what bullshit things are sometimes.

Edit: I realized after rereading this stream of consciousness I wrote that I didn't even mention anything that your original post talked about, so in the interest of discussion:

Palin needs to keep the countries eyes and ears off of what she says and on to what she looks like as long as possible. If you put her up there against Joe Biden, who actually has political experience and foreign policy experience, she's gonna get smoked. No amount of fast-studying (as Laura Bush said: "Obviously she doesn't have foriegn policy experience, but she's a fast-study") or speaking crash courses she takes is going to make her a formidable opponent to Biden.

What I don't understand is why McCain would make such a stupid move as to put any focus on the VP debate at all. The less people who watch, the better off he'll be; so presumably you'd want to create as little press about it as possible. Plus, there's the added silver lining for McCain that Biden is known to be gaffe-prone and to often go off script. And with McCain and his "Biden Gaffe Clock" running at full steam, this would be the perfect oppritunity to let the VP debate run under the radar and to rip apart Biden in as many sound bites as possible.

The other point worth making is this: vice presidential candidates generally don't make any difference in campaigns come election day. People are electing the President, not the VP (or President in waiting for the President to die of Cancer, as Obama supporters constantly try to cast Palin.) Unless one of them says something that would completely alienate a large sub-section of the population, they don't matter.

God damn I write long posts way too often. When you're bored at work and don't want to actually do work it's what happens.

Did you see the Palin interview on CBS last night? That ANYONE could watch that and be anything other than outraged, THAT is what's sick. She's fucking incompetent. She makes Dub look bright.

The CBS interview with Palin, if you watch Katie Couric, I swear she is thinking that she herself has better credentials and more foriegn policy experience than Palin.

Palin is one friggin idiot! She seems so worried about Alaska being invaded by Canada and Russia on a daily basis I sat watching that interview amazed in disbelief in noting how much of an idiot she is.

Time to get out her Pastor to save her from more witchcraft next. All those Witches and Warlocks running around in D.C.

You realize she thinks she has foreign policy experience because she "lives close to russia"

watch the katie couric interview, his comments are extremely relevant because palin is a moron and not enough people realize this. They're so focused on McCain (who's fucking 72, I thought until yesterday he was in his mid 60's). She has no opinions and multiple times just spits out rhetoric and junk she has read off of note cards over and over.

that shit was great btw, fit.
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

To say "when Obama becomes president everything will return to normal" is laughable. No matter who wins this election, the economic shitstorm coming their way is off the charts.
