I remember march or april I saw a story about a woman who was killed by a stingray or flying fish jumping out of the water and hitting her while the boat was going pretty fast.

On a side note - I too was almost crushed by a dolphin, though I kinda brought it upon myself.

I was camping on a barrier island near an inlet to the marsh that makes up the back half of the island. Around 1-2 in the morning, I kept hearing a loud noise that sounded like what you'd imagine a whale's blowhole sounds like. Sure enough, it was a pack of dolphins. It was pretty bright out for 1 am, so you could make out the shadows in the water where they were swimming, and they were right next to the shore. It was low tide, and these dolphins feed by herding the fish up, driving them towards the shore, and then beaching themselves to catch and eat the stunned fish.

Curious, I watched them beach themselves next to me for 20 mins or so before I saw one go too shallow and kinda get stuck. The entire time this was happening, I was debating whether or not I should try to jump in the water and grab one, just to say I touched a dolphin. Seeing this guy completely on land, flopping around, made me decide it was NOT a good idea (he looked like he was several hundred pounds, and would have my ass). Previously, when the dolphins beached themselves, they would flop back into the water with one hop or so; it took like 2-3 seconds. This guy had been out for about 30 seconds, and was not really next to me so I thought "this was my chance to touch a dolphin". I ran over to touch it (in like 6 ins of water) and it started flopping like mad. I was seriously afraid it was going to knock the shit out of me with its tail. I never touched it, but it managed to hop itself back into deeper water in a few minutes. We sat in the moonlight watching the dolphins beach themselves within our reach and feed for another hour.

It was probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen first hand with animals.

The coolest thing about it was that he not only killed one big bear, but in effect 2 baby bears because they couldn't survive. 3 for 1 well done!
