Yes and I used to play base jav over you everytime cause i was cap with HT.. $Originally posted by Necromotic View Post10 years ago... I was 13 and pretty much annoyed a lot of people on every squad I was because I wanted to jav every single BD.
- was on FMM with some people who went on to be legendary basers like don't try to resist, jamal, relativity_17 (amazing pubber), stabwound
- was on Rejected Basers (fun times with lunch3, heavensent, WPE, among others)
- also later joined Spastic and had some great times there as well
I do miss baseelim being at capacity seemingly at all times of the day as well as base being packed.
10 years ago.. i was on Pirates and I believe that was one the longest squads I stayed on other than FMM while being active. Missing those days with Hercules, Kim, exq, vigi, SRV, Amor, Nikolai, Ghoul, jargha.. up to this day.. i'm still using the Pirates Subspace skinLast edited by Nimrook; 07-06-2015, 08:36 PM.

10 years ago I was using the name ivf. I was on the squad quicksand and then would jump ship to other squads, I was the biggest hopper out there, captains knew this but took me on regardless due to my skill. This is the year I broke through to the top tier squads. I got recruited by vigilanty and Hercules to pirates after I beat them 21-3 in a dd. my nickname was 16-4 on quicksand because that was my average per game. I used to play the game for hours on end and only take puss breaks and food breaks. This was a memorable year for me. I used to get a little buzz coming online and putting on my playlist on Kazaa or limewire and trolling the fuck out of people. I miss players like deluge, his cousin stressed, azreal, annul, stripes, escalate, merce, vigi, Mann there's so many to list. RIP TW you've provided me with tonnes of memories

Damnit! 10 years ago I was a wee little 15 year old trolling mgctf. Wasn't till a few years after that, that I became a top dueler, finally wrecking pros like newbix, and coop$ in mgctf divisions, and being one of the best defensive flaggers in deathball league on squad advised. Wasnt until just a few years ago that I appreciated how active this game was, and
buddy zidane introduced me to this whole other world called tw, and well, here I am recruiting new players and teaching them about the game.Last edited by parson; 01-09-2015, 10:24 AM.

You know when Scrotal was sending emails every friday about the upcoming TWL matches and how we should prepare you knew it was some serious business. Other than that I do miss the competetive elim/belim.

Definitley Good Times
I played this game for a long time, even though a lot of times it was off and on due to how much I worked, real life stuff always was occuring, I would definitly say being co-captain with Fbz in Light was easily the most fun I've ever had (on a video game), that group was undeniably funny and talented, I still remember those sweet line ups, and that season we absolutely face rolled every single TWDivision during the qual's for season 5. I still reflect back on it now, I've played a few games after that and remain a casual gamer, but nothing comes close to that 2003-4 season with my fellow Light Squaddies-
You guys remember the Heidi Klum Website I made for Light? - Best website ever-
And Divine Rides and me had the absolute best epic fights over the forums. Anyone remember him wanting to buy a ticket to fly down to fight me IRL? Oh goodness. I miss those days. Truly.

2003 is when the first regular and popular ?go #base/#spider/#etc were being run by Mods and ERs. I was on Vortex briefly the year before and was being recognized and regularly picked in these private matches. Before ?go base was created and people were having a hard time getting into these matches - and heck, even knowing how to play proper basing game - I decided to start Rejected Basers. I'd go into pubs and scout prospects. Usually people that seemed fairly dedicated to the game and with a few questions about whether or not they'd like to learn how to play their way into the leagues (a lot of them not even knowing leagues existed). I recruited them and taught a fairly large core of players how to base properly. It was incredibly frustrating and irritating (my drinking was also getting really out of control IRL at that time) but it was tons of fun and incredibly rewarding to see so many come into their own and eventually make a name for themselves... many of which are still playing to this day
Eventually I was able to recruit a few solid players that had been around the block and a few up and coming basers to help the team out. We had THE most active basing squad, pulling in something like 10+ BDs a day as well as the most active sub-forum by far on the TW forums.
I never intended the squad to become a TWL candidate, and to just have players move on and do their thing after learning the ropes, but eventually it was decided by the lot of RB's foundation that it was their wish to go on and compete. It was fitting as the gates had been opened at that poiont, ?go base was a regular activity, and basing in general was mainstream and much easier to get into. That was the end of my time with RB and probably the height of my enjoyment of the game. I was staffing, getting people interested in the aspect of the game I loved, and whoopin' some ass. My departure and eventual move to Incuria mirrored a huge turning point in my personal life.

Time goes by so fast, it's absolutely nuts. I just realized I've been working for the same organization for 5 years and I have hardly played any games at all in that time. Other than Civilization, I play that if I ever have a moment. Anyway, I don't know if this was 10 years ago or not, but let's pretend it was.
It was near the end of my playing career. I had just been "axed" from being a mod because at this time being on staff was a big deal and responsibility was important. I was a little inactive so they shut me down. Inactivity on the part of veteran staffers was becoming an issue so someone, Pure_Luck maybe, instituted quotas for the first time. I think at this point I might have been a veteran staffer - I always compared myself to Epinephrine and DoCk> so I felt like a perpetual newb but I probably wasn't.
My last days in SubSpace were spent logging in for 1-2 hour long sessions of ?go base just before I went to bed after work/university classes/supper around 10:00-12:00pm central time. I remember some of guys who also played at that same time. There was a crew of us, all the same guys every night. It was probably the best time I had playing this game. I remember Dr.Coiff and WingZero played back then. I'm sure some other guys were regulars too. If I recall correctly it started to die out, I'd login and we'd only get one round or so and people would leave. Once it wasn't sustainable anymore I quit coming back. Anyone else remember this great era?

Heck yeah, we were such a powerhouse squad back then, great fun.. back when i used Fun and Lepr0nOriginally posted by Demonic View Postah 2003!! The year of light! We were supposed to wipe the floor with everyone that twl season, best wb's, best javs, best basers and ended up choking all except twlb. Great fun all the way tho, even if it didn't feel like it at the time.
I miss many of those players that doesnt play anymore.
Demonic, thanks so much for posting that big story about TW written by Epi. For us who started this game in the really early years it was extremely entertaining and nostalgic to read. Melee was probably one of the first really good squads that i joined when Plague Rabbits Adios merged with POiDs Off Guard and formed Melee, that TWL and in general the whole gameplay, competition and atmosphere was awesome.
My own reflection of what kept me all those years (14 years) in this game and TW must be the intense elim fun, both in WBs and Javs.
I remember the stacked elim arenas (early elim and later separated belim/elim) with 60+ people competing on really high lvls to be the number one in the rankings. Later on, almost every game the extended base of the jav elimarena would open up due to so many people, and gaining insane and sick records k/d and wins was the number one achievement.
Pretty sure many of the players in here remember those elim days, might still have a screenshot of being 39-0, or if 2dragons has it.
Being 12-14 years old and ranked #1 in elim was, believe it or not such a big achievement lol. It was almost equivalent to winning the leagues with the hockey or football team.
I remember after you just hit your top ranking when achiving the total amount of k/d, another player would fiercely try to steal the position and it began.
This would go on and on and continue every day as you could rank more than one name and everyone wanted it.
damn... I could write alot about how it used to be, reflections on modern TW, improvements and such.. But i gotta go.
Great read though! Prolly one of my few visits to the forums and i enjoy it every time, just fail to come back somehow.
