Classic design of XP (display/performance settings). No guarantee though. In worst case you might have to set every detail of compatibility by registry or use a VM.
For the why: Might work since Windows won't try to keep its transparency (which allows round corners for buttons) at all costs. New graphics card without support for DirectX below version 9 and NT 4+ kernel (Win XP and up) "guesses" best emulation mode for older software which requires this functionality unless given precise orders, which often leads to problems like messed up colors, black screenshots, blurry fonts and so on. This emulation - since using CPU instead of GPU - is also the cause for rather low FPS on brand new machines. CPU is highly Integer operation optimized while GPU mostly works with Floating Point values and longer operations and CPU also has to handle all of the emulation in this mode.

Classic design of what? How?
I've had SP3 for years and I had no issues until I changed the graphics card.

XP seems to have this problem since SP3. You might get an easy fix there by going to classic design, too.

I remember now!
I had to pm someone "Are you still here or already afk picking up KFC?" to solve it.
The person who I pm'd then got the screenshot problem though.

Thanks for the help. I haven't played since making that post, so I don't know if that software emulation trick worked or not. If it doesn't, I will try your suggestions. Thank you very much.
I use Windows XP, by the way, and I play full screen.

Just one possible fix if this still is an issue: the first screenshot you take during a session might be black due to the default themes and drawing modes windows has, especially on 7+ and windowed mode. It will auto-set to a more compatible mode after that mostly though and all following screenshots should be normal. If that does not work killing the explorer.exe did the job for most of the people I helped who could not get it fixed by any setting.
Howto:
1. Windows Key + R
2. cmd + Enter
3. taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
4. play but leave this window open
5. when done playing or you want your taskbar and folders back: "start explorer.exe"
Or make a txt file in your cont folder and input the following:
@echo off
taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
Continuum.exe
pause
start explorer.exe
exit
Save and rename to "whatever.bat" then start Continuum by double clicking this file.
This method also works to fix graphics errors in other old games such as diablo 1 or starcraft.

Ok, I tried the main menu of Continuum and checked the box. What exactly does "software emulation" do?
