TW Cup 3rd weekend review + FA draft
What a long Sunday everyone experienced, starting with FA draft, which bought several key players into teams and possibly also changed a bit the potential of each team.
WB draft
Ekkos team has been struggling this season, besides that one crazy game against Prime on Monday. So adding mythril to ranks will definitely give them hope in getting better results in final weeks of this league. Hypocrit and paradise were other 2 picks for Ekko, but their activity is questionable. Siaxis brought another wb vet tripin alongside sword and raiyin, while bike getting rainbow seeker will definitely improve hippos chances (with draft/rozay as other picks). Racka added cape to their already star-filled team with merc and ibex, while wb leaders avengers added berzerk, genx, y0gi and dutch baser. Overall, weaker performing teams got better, only a few games left in wb though, so the new recruits have to mainly shine in playoffs. WB is only league that has also play-ins, so potentially alot of drama still ahead of us.
JAV draft
Tiny was probably the biggest gainer of this draft adding zidane to roster (berzerk, heafin, genx and ibex as other additions). On paper, pure luck really has a fantastic lineup. Ekko also chose mythril in jav alongside tripin, sword and i.d. Even with new additions, Ethereal will probably continue to struggle, but its really up to that 1 final game next weekend as both tiny and ekko have only 1 win and 1 game to play. Stayon added very solid javs draft and paradise with y0gi and merc as final picks. Dominating Monster got even more quality javs with Kim and hypocrit and dutch baser and cig smoke to enjoy the ride, while dreamwin snapped up cape, rainbow seeker raiyin and delos. Monster has been steamrolling this league, but as they were anyways only team with 5 really good players in lineup, others should catch up as they can now field 5 strong javs as well.
BASE draft
Base draft had a bit of confusion and drama as well as there was some miscommunication between renzis team and his picks and draft hosts. In the end they got some solid terring options in heafin and morph with berzerk and spirit also joining the cup leaders. Dwopple got more power in spidering, adding sword and dutch baser alongside ph. Zizu has had to compromise his lineup due to some shark issues, so getting zidane really boosts their chances in this league with merc and tripin as final additions. Ekko managed to get last draft league spider superstar rainbow seeker and hypocrit with i.d. and paradise as last picks. And dreamwin picked up multitalent cape, another terr option in draft and raiyin, making terrorist also stronger.
After draft we had a bit of weird schedule with first one round of jav then couple of wb games, then again jav and then base games. One thing in common is that FA additions have made teams more equal. While in early stages of this cup, landslide games were pretty standard, then last week majority of games were tight, showing competition is getting tougher.
WB
Avengers (2-0 over weekend) Irons team continued their good season even playing without first round pick morph. Lineup of iron/okyo/berzerk/rough/lee played well in both games. First beating much better looking Ethereal and then crushing happy hippos in most one-sided game of the weekend. Everyone really played well, stayed alive when needed and took advantage of opponent weak plays. Avengers have also secured top spot of main season, new challenges await in playoffs.
Happy Hippos (1-1 over weekend) Bike probably comes with a mixed feelings from this weekend. They managed to get crucial win over alieexpress with refer/dreamwin/zapata all managing to survive at high deaths in a tight +3 win. But then got crushed by avengers with bike clearly underperforming in both games (4-10 and 6-10). If rainbow shows, it will definitely raise quite a bit of questions who he should replace as hippos players generally seem to pull very unstable performances, shining in one game, but failing in other. Hippos still have 2 games to play though, so securing playoffs is totally in their hands.
Alieexpress (1-1 over weekend) Similar to bike, siaxis is probably contemplating about his life choices after very poor 1-7 performance in loss against hippos and benching himself in second game, close win against Prime, where bombed shined in mvp worthy 16-9. Out of the mid-table teams, alieexpress is now at worst situation with only 1 game to be played, so play-in game vs ethereal is most likely to come.
Prime (0-1 over weekend) Prime had just 1 game, close match against alieexpress that they lost. One of those games where siaxis crew just managed to survive in the end better and get some key KOs. Prime still has 2 games left to play, so they should be pretty secure in making it to playoffs, totally in their hands.
Ethereal (0-1 over weekend) Ethereal put up a decent game vs Avengers with mythril making a debut of the season. They have already lost main season clearly, but as captains voted for play-ins, they are bound to have 1 more chance in whoever places second last. Biggest culprit last weekend was zizu with very dissapointing 2-10, cripple on the other hand shined with 15-10.
So what to expect from next weekend? Main question is who will have to face upgraded Ethereal in play-in games with alieexpress in most difficult situation for now.
JAV
Terrorist (2-0 over weekend) Terrorist had a very solid weekend, winning both games. In first, cape made his debut this season, but star of the show was jabra, who popped again one of his legendary 10* performances going 18-8. DW himself had a pretty bad weekend, going 5-9 first game and being first one out in second game against Ethereal, but that time it was commodo who rose up to shine with mvp worthy 14-5. Terrorist still has 3 more games to play, but they are in playoffs already.
Monster (2-0 over weekend) Monster continued their dominant performances and are still undefeated in this league. Games were of course much tighter and rampage was not around, but byakko/geio were decisive in final moments of game in +3 win vs Ethereal, while morph was dominating in easier game against pure luck. Monster definitely team to beat in this league, but for now they can be still topped by terrorist in rankings, so they need to take last 2 games seriously.
Ethereal (1-2 over weekend) Ethereal finally got some added quality to ranks and played some great games, with bombed finally also deciding to try. They got crucial win against pure luck in first game of weekend with new recruit mythil alongside bombed making the difference. Then came very close game against monster, which they lost and then pretty poor performance against terrorist, ignited by not-in shape hellkite, not present in first 2 games, who had to be subbed out at 4-8 in early game. His league has been pretty awful. Ethereal has 2 games left, good thing is that they are against 2 main competitors pure luck and pub crackheads, so it is still not all lost for them.
Pure Luck (1-2 over weekend) Pure luck really isnt for some reason shining in this tournament, contrary to how their roster looks. It is pretty incredible to see roster consisting of tiny, racka, zidane, drose, jurassic, skatarius and others only having 1 win this season. Despite best efforts from jurassic they just failed to dominate against ethereal in first game of weekend. They did show their class surviving with high deaths against pub crackheads in a close +4 win, getting their first victory of season. But last game against dominant Monster was again dissapointing with rackas 3-10 and 8th minute exit once again clearly not up to his standards. Pure luck has 2 games left, a really crucial match vs ethereal they need to win and vs terrorist.
Pub crackheads (0-2 over weekend) Pretty dissapointing weekend for Stayon, as crackheads were the only team not to win a single game. In first game vs terrorist, stayon himself and hellzno! had to witness early exits, while second game was close encounter against pure luck, where "5th guys" on roster zapata/rekashi were not up to level. Still, alongside terrorist, they still have 3 games to play, so securing playoff is totally up to them. But those teams include one against direct competitor Ethereal and rest 2 are against leading teams, so stayons crew needs to have a very strong showing.
Jav, with some teams having 3 games to play is still open. Terrorist/Monster are secure, but rest of the teams have to put up great games as no play-ins in this league and last one is out.
BASE
Caped crusaders (3-0 over weekend) Renzis team isnt really stopping. 3 very dominant wins and they clearly are the team to beat and securely and nicely in playoffs.
Crab champions (2-0 over weekend) Zizu finally has fixed his lag issues and crucial signing in FA in zidane has turned the tides for this team. TJ hazuki is having season of his lifetime as this team is on the rise. If they can keep up this shape next weekend with 3 games in a row, they will be perhaps biggest challenger for renzi and the boys.
Ethereal (1-1-) Another solid weekend for Ekko. They may not be the most shining team out there, but are definitely picking up the wins, where they can. Big weekend ahead of them with 3 games to play, so alot can happen.
Terrorist (0-2) Things didnt really click for dreamwin and the boys, First loss against ethereal was pretty wild as so many times if felt like terrorist would go away with game, just to ekkos crew to come back after some weird mistake. Second game was already more clear loss. Not all lost for this team though, they still got 3 games to play in a very big weekend ahead as everything is open in base.
Onlyteks (0-3) What a terrible weekend for dwopples team losing all 3 games in a pretty onesided manner. Surely there was also some people missing from the team, but this puts them in a very difficult spot for making it to playoffs. They only got 2 games left, but what may give them hope is that they are against teams they are directly fighting for that playoff spot (ethereal and terrorist).
Apart from Caped crusaders dominating, this is the most open league still with all other teams having to fight to make it. Very interesting weekend ahead of us.
So here we go 1 more weekend to go and then lets see who has made it to playoffs and which teams fortunes were turned most by FA draft pickups.
