TWDT-B semi-finals ended with the victories of Baratheon and Terrorist, who defeated their opponents cleanly 2-0, sending #1 and #2 seeds Power and Alf home.
Power 0 – 2 Baratheon
After struggling for most of the season and barely making it to the semis, the title favourite Baratheon showed what they were made of by defeating the team with the best record of the tourney in straight 2 games. Power tried valiantly to stem the tide, but the flow was too strong, and their players were swept away with the wreckage, with cantankerous captain zidane cursing and yelling abuse at his players before finally sinking below the surface. Baratheon won the first game by 5 minutes and the second by 2 minutes and change, so it was a battle. In basing 2 minutes is a long time, though.
Vehicle’s inexperience in terrier showed against Baratheon’s captain and anchor Ogron, who has been tested many times before. Claus unsurprisingly came out on top against his weaker opponent. It’s not fair to blame Vehicle, however, as Power was outplayed in every department. Not to mention that Power’s other terrier option Aprix never showed up, and Vehicle was thrust into this important and visible role by necessity, all the while suffering much verbal abuse from his team after every slight mistake or questionable play. And it’s unlikely that an inactive 7* baser would have made much of a difference here. There are only so many terriers and sharks left in TW, so zidane’s decision to go for all 3 titles, and draft accordingly, cost his team in basing. Power is in the DTD and DTJ finals, however – he clearly knows what he’s doing, even if he can’t quite control himself and act graciously in defeat.
In shark, Hulk and poopjet outplayed zidane and his 6* partner beam, which came as no surprise due to their sheer star power – combined 18* against 16*. While protecting their team with expert timing they were also able to lay mines everywhere and wreak havoc with aimed shrapnel, which is particularly effective against someone like Vehicle, who has been MIA for years before this tourney and has not had the chance to practise much. I must give credit to beam though, he is much better than his 6* rating implies – just not good enough to pit against two 9* veterans and be expected to hold his own.
Cripple was the only one to break 100 kills in spider in the statistically even 1st match, and outkilled his closest competitor Spezza by 1 kill in match #2, which Baratheon won by 30ish kills. In both games Baratheon’s spiders controlled the flag and played smarter, though they were helped by their much better shark support and terrier positioning. No one really played poorly, but I guess I’ll mention, again, that Holy Ship went negative in the first match (while valiantly pushing for his team). But wait! He redeemed himself in match #2, earning his 1st hot of the season. Congratulations!

HOT: Ogron (42-4). Strong play by the captain.
HOT: hulk (14-98, 2 teks, 3.0 rpd). A rock-solid shark performance.
NOT: Holy Ship (62-65). He played for his team, and he died for his team.

HOT: Holy Ship (82-59, 2 teks). Holy shit! Holy Ship earns a HOT for pushing 2 teks.
NOT: Vehicle (19-6). Kills aren’t everything for terriers, but 19 kills in 28 minutes is quite poor.
Terrorist 2 – 0 Alf
I did not see these games, nor are there recordings available, so this text will be based purely on the scoresheets (though that has been the case for most of the games this season).
These 2 games were much less exciting than Power vs Baratheon, as Terrorist stomped Alf in game #1 by 10 whole minutes, and 7 minutes in game #2, proving that Alf’s strong season was mostly a fluke – no disrespect, at least they didn’t forfeit games like the much higher rated Brexit which flopped spectacularly and didn’t even make the semi-finals.
In shark, Bellflowers and mr. homo filled in for WAR and Dwopple, who are still busy attending the Dice convention with unfortunate Paladin’s draftees Mohammed, Sphinx, WBM and Oderus, along with fabulous Portuguese Puta, I mean event hostess, Stayon. Beasty and Mythril showed up and played well once again, as they have the whole season, and I think they were better than their makeshift opponents in this matchup.
Terrier legend Mikkiz went toe-to-toe with swiss army knife baser Major Crisis, with predictable results. Well, it’s fair to point out that Dikkiz was helped by a much stronger team, and thus never had any trouble.
Terrorist’s spiders won by about 60+70 kills. I’m not going to do the star comparison here as I did with sharks in Power vs Baratheon, but Terrorist has the clear edge here with players like dreamwin and kess, as this results shows. It’s safe to assume Holy Ship’s idol Turban taped his forward button down again, trying desperately to force a chink in Terrorist’s armour. Shaun somehow camped his way into 70-31 and 77-48 recs.

HOT: Mikkiz (28-3, 3 teks). Nothing spectacular against a team like Alf, but nice regardless.
NOT: ROZAY (55-56). After a good season, a thoroughly mediocre outing.

HOT: dreamwin (103-52, 2 teks). Most kills, 2 teks. What else is there to say?
HOT: skyforger (100-56, 1 tek). 100 kills, pretty goddamn nice for a 6* spider!
NOT: No one. I’m feeling generous and not giving anyone a NOT for this game. Even Namnlos went 1:1 with a tek, and it would not be fair to MC to give it to him without seeing how he played (though I’m tempted).
Baser of the week: hulk (14-98, 2 teks, 3.0 rpd) & (23-111, 1 tek, 3.0 rpd).
He earned this last week, and I’ll give to him again now. The Herculean Hulk carried his team and made seemingly no mistakes, despite that he barely even plays the game anymore.
Many players played very well this week, making this decision quite difficult. But as Christopher Lambert said, there can only be one. Since Terrorist easily availed against Alf with no difficulties whatsoever, I am using that as an excuse to not give the award to one of their players.
Honourable mentions: cripple, Mikkiz, dreamwin, zidane, porkjet.
---
Good luck to Baratheon and Terrorist in the finals. I’m predicting Baratheon will win with their stronger sharks, unless of course porkjet has another acute family emergency (or craving to get mentioned in these posts).
