TWDT main season learnings
We have one more week to go, but this feels sort of like unnecessary prolonging of main season as unlike previous seasons, this one seems to have divided teams into 3 groups already a while ago. Then again, last week is great opportunity to give playtime for those who have not gotten much of it and there are still some positions to fight for mainly between Crimson and Win or Die to determine second team to get bye-week.
1) Powerhouses
3 teams stand above other. Power, Crimson and Win or Die. Each can be described by having very well built team structure, number of underrated players and top-players being in great shape. While Crimson seems a bit weaker vs other 2 in jav, they compensate it by dominating wbs. Power has superstrong base lineup, losing only 1 game so far in the league, but holds its own in duelling formats as well and win or die is perfectly balanced, showing good performances in each format.
2) Mid-tier
Mid-tier consists of teams that although have had no issues making it to playoffs, all have some weakness that prevents them from being real contenders. Terrorist is one of the best jav teams, but has been struggling bad in wb with only 4 wins so far. Vios squad is great in wb, but is struggling in jav, while Pure Luck has had some difficult times in base. Still, making it to playoffs will give them every chance in getting it to finals, especially in their strongest format.
3) Out of depth
Freespirits and GOAT, dropped to bottom of the table pretty much from first rounds and havent given much promise, apart from occasional surprise wins here and there, to be real contenders. It all begins with draft of course, vys made some strange choices, which made building a competitive freq difficult. Too many too high star players in league with lowered max vps was always going to give him issues and delivering a competitive lineup. Trades and FA draft did not improve much.
Absurd somehow forgot to build jav line, which somewhat got fixed with getting Commodo in FA, but with paradise showing only 1 weekend for entire league, this made Freespirits playing with 39-39.5 vp lineup entire season. On top of that, absurd was for some reason also totally out of shape and playing under his VP rating, some truly great performances from lower vps like Ekko, sarger, omega red every now and then could not save the season.
Overall, unlike in several previous seasons, there were clear good, average and bad squads and no real last round drama to be expected. Lets see if playoffs will bring some surprises.
