im going with the devils like always. what a great series it would be against philly. who are your picks for the awards?

hart trophy (mvp) - st. louis
selk trophy (best defencive forward) - maltby or draper? i get them 2 mixed up
calder trophy (best rookie) - Raycroft, he's probably the reason why bwuaston is in the playoffs
norris trophy (all around defenceman) - S.Niedermayer
vezina trophy (best goalie) - Brodeur
lady byng aka pussy of the year trophy (gentleman-like conduct with skillz) - Messier, i guess
adams award (best coach) - the one from the san jose

selke - i don't know, this is one of the hardest awards to judge.
Norris - put Chara up there, he was leading +/- for most of the season, but we'll see/
Vezina - Brodeur is always a solid pick but you can't forget about Luongo/Roycroft/Belfour
Lady Byng - Messier is not going to get it, because of that suspension, look for a euro/russian to get this.
Best Coach - Torterlella Tampa.

Norris - Chara, Leetch, Gonchar, McCabe are all up there (can you believe it, the leafs have 2 guys that could win ebst defencemen, i know i;m shocked too)
Vezina - Brodeur. Luongo is good, but he's so far away from playoffs you can't give him the award, he got pulled last week with liek 5 goals on him too. Belfour isn't good folks, he's got an over 2 gaa, thats not exactrly great. It's either Brodeur, whos my heir apparent to Patrick Roy OR Mikka Kirusoff of Calgary who has like 1.3 gaa (or something)
Lady Byng - I think messier will get it anyways, because of just how good a player he has been, but only if he retires. I mean, 1500+ games, 3rd in total points scored, 4 stanley cups, etc.
Best Coach - Marc Crawford showed he should win the worst coach award this season.

Lightning, MacTavish (edmonton) are solid contenders but i want Ottawas Jacques Martin to win, he's the longest serving coach currently in the nhl, and he took them from nothing oh so long ago, and has made them better each year. Yes they made the playoffs several years ago, but they were always viewed as to weak. Well he's put together one of the most skilled teams in the league, thats tough as well. his only real mistake is keeping Lalime, whos shaky at best - but they have 2 future elite goaltenders comign up in Prusek and Emry (ignore how shitty they've both played this past week)

Nickname, all the reasons you gave for Martin are reasons why he shouldn't get the award. You can't give him the coach of the year award for previous year's work. He's not the one who put the team together, GM Muckler did.

St Louis should win the Hart, hands down. The only thing that should be interesting is who the other two finalists will be.
The Selke trophy is too hard to call as stats alone cannot even give you a shortlist of candidates.
Chara is a good choice for the Norris, but I'm hoping for McCabe to get recognized.
Brodeur and Belfour are my favourites for the Vezina, though Luongo might be a surprise nominee, just for the sheer volume of work he had to put in.
Tortorella should win the Jack Adams for being able to put the words "Tampa Bay Lightening" and "first place" in the same sentence.

As for the Lady Byng trophy, I have to ask those of you who named Messier: do you even know what the trophy is for? I think you're getting it mixed up with the Masterton trophy. That's the one that's usually given based on sentiment. You can't win the Lady Byng trophy with 42 penalty minutes. Look for someone like Brad Richards. He's in the top 10 in scoring with just 12 minutes all year.


Anyways, if there's enough interest for a pool, we can do it two ways: either in picking winners of each playoff matchup and how many games they take, or by picking players and keeping track of their scoring.

hmmm good point.Im sure bertuzzi wouldnt win it,so now i'd have to say it either might be Francis, hes won three of them so far, Hull, but i've hear that he is a trash talker away from the ice, maybe Marleu or Mike York? or if for some odd reason st.louis wouldnt win the hart trophy, he would definitely win this one just like gretzky did when he wouldnt win the hart trophy.

1. Aki Berg - the sheer OAFishness of this man is just fucking rediculous.
2. Trevor Kidd - worst goalie in the NHL hands down.
3. Mikael Renberg - one of the most overrated and overpaid players since the one or two good seasons the "Legion of Doom" had.
