Once you make an account and a character on a server, any character made afterwards using the same account will be made on that same server. Troll are you and your brother going to be using the same ps2? Or do one/both of you use the computer version? I didn't like the random server placement either, but they did that to make sure the population stayed somewhat balanced for each server. Few people actually buy world passes and start their character over from sratch, even if 2 or 3 of their irl friends are on another server.
-BTW, your best bet is to get into a linkshell. Mundane leveling isn't all there is to FFXI, but you won't find out about most unless you go to some FFXI boards or unless you get in a LS. And for those that don't know, Linkshell = clan/squad etc etc.My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen.
