This has a kind of relevance, but code isn't doing anything wrong. It's business and it's not there to make friends.

So via your business model, if Dock> went and banned everyone that has that web hosting service in their sig, you would be alright with it, right?
I mean .. it's business, it isn't about making friends, or being ethical, right?

Again, I have nothing against Code, but I think this is a pretty shitty way to do business. If he set up his own Trench Wars forums and advertised his hosting there, more power to him. But not only is he coming in to a competitor's home territory, he's doing it on the competitor's dime. And if any of you cared about the continued life of the TW server, I would think you'd be giving your hosting business for your TW squads and what not, to the site that actually supports the game.

Whether any of you will admit to it or not, his actions are ethically wrong.

Uh yes. It's being an advertising troll. He knows this website is run on a competitor's machine/time/money, and does he ask to advertise? No. When his post advertising is locked, I'm not sure if other people volunteered or if he asked to put the stuff in their sig, if he asked, then that's a blatant end run around being told not to advertise.

Granted since this is a public forum it isn't in any way illegal, and since I haven't seen any rules regarding it, that was the first mistake. It wasn't by any stretch illegal even but the forum rules, but it is absolutely dirty business. I think by all means, Dock> should set it in stone, if you blatantly advertising troll a competing company with the TWSites server, expect it to be removed, if you find a way around that, such as putting it in a sig, expect to be warned, then banned if the behavior continues.

If you had any notion of business ethics whatsoever, you'd understand how completely uncool this is. You are advertising and making a competitor pay for it. How much of the profit of your web hosting service goes to supplement and pay for the TW server? I hope you earn millions with your business venture, but at the same time, it's altogether a crappy way to behave, and you should be ashamed of yourself. This isn't a free discussion for everyone forum, it's a TW forum, run off TW servers, and the TW hosting helps pay for the game and this forum, and the bandwith they use. So not only are you fucking with a competitor on his home turf, any damage you might do with it, hurts the whole server, the game, and this community.

Ok i think first off he does have a notion of business ethics otherwise he wouldn't be in business. Who cares what ethics are used anyway? People are in business to make money not shape their morals. Last i checked, this is a public chat forum where people can discuss what they like with few limitations. I'm sorry to burst your ethical bubble, but advertising is everywhere. What better place to advertise WEB hosting, than on the WEB? if you don't like his signature then don't read it, click it, or smell it. Whether his 1k of html code is there or not, is not going to bog down the tw servers.
Code is not some noob who makes trouble at every turn, he's been here for years. Althought going against your morals, he does not break the rules here, at least i don't think. (haven't read through the acceptable use policy)

Sarien, I understand this forum is supported by donations and twsites hosting. I also know that these forums have been here long before either of those were in place and this has always been a forum to come to thats related to a game I play for fun. I don't look at it as a place of business where I have to worry about posting something about a company I've launched.

I do respect DoCk>, he asked me not to post thread's that are advertising my web hosting company. I agreed, he said my signature was fine. When I talk to others I know on the game about the issue they support me of course. Some said they would put what they have in they're signature and some I've asked to support me.

In either case, I think it's not going against anything currently in place. I'm not against twsites by any means. If DoCk> was to put something in place, I would respect that and that would be the end of it. I don't think you have a place to bash me about my signature though. I think I have a right to let people know I own a web hosting company. Even if I don't get to tell them about it on a thread or ramble on about this and that.

People can make a decision for themselves. Who is to blame if they sign up for my service instead of DoCK>'s? Or for that matter, some other service on the internet instead of either mine or DoCk>'s? Surely people know that it supports the tw server, and more. I think they can decide on they're own. Nobody's forcing anyone to go either way. People can search on google if they think there is better services out there. People know how to research, either way its up to people on what they decide.

Nah man, I'm cool.. you got me dead to rights. I won't make any excuses for myself or anything, but I didn't know about the part above. From the last thread I saw on the subject, the one that was locked, it looked like at the time, Dock was resisting it, and lots of people were trying to tag team him, which wasn't cool. So I hope you could understand my position in that case of "not cool to jump on him". If he's cool with it in your sig? Who the hell am I to say anything against it. Isn't like I run the board, and to show you that I bear you no ill will big guy, as long as it's been said ok to be in a sig, I've added a little something to my own for a while. Unlike some of the juvenile jockstraps that can hang around here, I'm an adult and admit it, when I'm wrong.
