  • Anyone here seen the 4th Dimension?

Yeah, I'm quite curious has anyone ever perceived the 4th Dimension of Reality?

Like, some of us know that this Universe or Reality is more than what we see (all 3D). Is it possible to see higher dimensions?

It sort of sucks, it would be advantages if I could see higher dimensions then I would know for sure if I'm really alone; cause I value my privacy.

Perhaps, Spiritual stuff or chakras might be the way... or some quantum leap advancements in Science... who knows..

Maybe people should stick to attempting to perceive the regular dimension around them, instead of wandering around like a blind dog in a meathouse. If there were another dimension, I'll tell it the same thing I tell God every day when I wake up. "Don't point that thing at me."

I can see it in numbers, not problem. 3d as in (1,2,3) just becomes 4d (1,1,3,4) for example.

What fascinates me is that according to teh almighty scientists, if a four-dimensional creature would stand in front of you, you could only see the fourth dimension of him (and not the 3 dimensions that we normally see). The cerature however could see our 3 dimensions plus a fourth dimension, hence making us fourdimensional creatures.
Now this one is the confusing part. We become four-dimensional once a 4d creature sees us, should we not then be able to see all of the other creatures 4 dimensions as well?? Ok that was a very confusing way of explaining but it becomes a spiral that never ends in fact...

I have no doubt that there are more than 3 dimensions, it's just that we can't understand it. Same as if there was no cold, how would we know if it's warm. Why measure a temperature when it's always the same

I thought time was the 4th dimension.

a person in a two dimensional world would not be able to perceive a third dimension

That reminds me of a book my math teacher was always talking about- Flatland. It's about a 2D world not unlike the spaceship world we know so well. It talks about the 2D objects that live there and how they see and interact with each other, as well as trying to understand the mind-bending possibility of a *gasp* 3D universe.

A spider in mid can't see a terr in the main tunnel because it can't see through the wall. To get to the terr as it understands, it would have to go left or right. It would have no understanding of over or under the wall, because those are 3D movements. A 4D person would be able to "turn their head" and scan left-right, up-down, forward-backwards and see our entire 3D world (like we see the entire 2D map). Cool.

The 4th dimension is also called time. See A Wrinkle In Time for that one.

Flatland is also publicly available on the internet.
Another interesting thing is that in subspace, we can see inside the ships. So someone who would perceive 4 spacial dimensions would be able to see our insides as well.

Negatory. With 2d subspace, since we're looking down on it, the top down view, the 2d objects have width and length, but no depth or height. Your spider there, which is to say a pilot in that spider, wouldn't see a wall, he wouldn't see anything. There is no height to see, unless of course, he were somehow outside of himself looking down on the map. Take a sheet of paper, draw a warbird on it, then turn it sideways. The paper actually has height, albeit next to none of it, what you're talking about would have none at all, and would then be effectively invisible viewed from that angle.

I also dunno what you're on about with the 4d person thing? You can turn your head left right, up and down, and can turn around forward backward. Has nothing to do with dimension.. if you were a person that had a series of eyes equadistant all the way around your head, you'd be able to see it all at once, and you'd still be a 3d being. What if said 4th dimensional being didn't have eyes at all? If the fourth dimension were time, then instead of having a special perspective about the outside of a person they would instead see a 3d being at any point along timeline they wanted to I suppose.

I dunno from 4th dimension, but man, The fabulous 5th dimension had some pretty good songs. Up, Up, and Away, in my beautiful, my beautiful balloon.

If we're talking about breaking dimensional limitations here, why limit ourselves to purely sight?

                          True dat

We are in the foruth dimention and everything there will be is in the fourth dimention.

If you want to go into the string theory and crap with these 6 dimentional bungle things (imagine where ever you look, you will always see your back) which are on each of the edges of time, read a book. I could ramble on about this stuff since i have a class in it, but its too complex unless you know math. break out some graph paper and start plotting "Fluxes" and you can see the string theory in effect, strange stuff to know that the universe might be woven together.

The brane theory (yea, brane) also has time as the controling dimention over the others.

A 3D person looks left-right-up-down and sees the entire 2D universe. A 4D person "looks" left-right-up-down-forwards-backwards and "sees" the entire 3D universe. Including our insides as Myth says. Fun stuff.

EDIT: Huge quoted text snipped. Read the forward of Flatland (available here). I'll just summarizing by saying: a 3D person says, "A 2D person has only length and width- no height! He cannot be seen!" A 4D person, likewise will say, "A 3D person has only length, width, and height- no foobreth! He cannot be seen!"

What a bullshit. Objects don't have more dimensions. Even if there was some flashy black hole with sparks swirling around it.
