  • Commercials before movies

I was wondering if anyone else hates those commercials they play before the previews? Can anyone enlighten me as to when they started showing these? I know it has been going on for at least a few months, but can't remember when they actually started. I don't want to go through 10 mins of coca cola and fanta ads before I even get to see the previews (which is another what, 5-10 mins in itself?). Barf.
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

My theory is that they started them so theres less lines outside the movie theater, and they run out of food faster so they buy even more, creating bigger profit.. and those food/drink commercials help with that.

It's only big theatre chains like Rave and United Artists that are doing it. In my little town theatre with two screens, there are no ads, just the movies.

My local theatre used to play ads all the time before the previews (which technically are also ads, but they can get interesting) but the last two times I went there, they didn't show any.

I remember a stretch of a year when I could predict specific ads in order because I'd seen them so many times before each film.

Our local theatre has 4 screens, and they play the same damn commercials before movies. It's always something from Coke, and then the BOD spray shit.

What I hate more is the stupid ads and trivia stuff they have before everything starts. If you're gonna make it interesting, have more than 12 slides so we don't know where Matt Damon went to college before it asks us.

I think they're pretty obnoxious. I'd be all for watching 20 minutes of ads if it would cut the damn ticket prices in half, but watching ads when I paid to see the movie seems ridiculous to me, especially when ticket prices are still going up.

Where I live there have been commercials and trailers before the movie begins in all cinemas. Some have more, some less, depending on how many potential advertisers they have a contract with.

lol..i read the following from a newspaper a couple month ago

a local mom said: "I took my 5-year-old daughter to see a movie that is rated G. It's really a good movie for my daughter, but to my surprise.. they showed several previews of some R-rated movies just before our movie starts. I had to cover my daughter's eyes"

i think, and it is true if i am correct, atleast here in holland... that if there were no commercials all the things the advertise for would be alot more expensive....

                            altough i don't like commersials
                            Code:
