We base what we want in government on beliefs and ideas. Hypothetical pretenses that may or may not ever be lived out.
For instance.
Abortion. A big issue. A good one at that. There are no facts or statistics behind these arguements. Just a belief you shouldn't "kill a baby", or you can terminate a fetus from growing. To base laws on this would be silly, because there is no definitive right or wrong. There is no ultimate correct answer, just two beliefs.
Another...
Gay Marriage. Again two beliefs, they can marry, they can't. The reasons aren't factual or statistical, but biblical and philosophical. Sanicity of marriage, or American's right of living? Who knows. Again there is no right answer. No wrong. Just two ways of thinking. Two ways to solve a problem.
The easiest way out of course is apathy and not giving a fuck about anything. But what does that prove in the end. It proves this: We do not know how to truly run a country. If people are better off not caring about politics, this Government, or lack there of, is failing.
