Alright, I have an assignment that is due Wednesday and it's about why English is as big as it is today. If you could give me some facts or point me out to a couple of helpful sites I'd be pretty grateful, because alas my google skills have not been of much use today and I have gotten a headache from all the searching. do u mean big as in it has a large vocabulary? Because it is the culmination of many languages: Latin, German, ect.

or do u mean because many other peoples are learning it? because America was the forerunner in technology and especially communications and electronic technology: the internet

Americans have money. America has big business. Americans won't learn any language besides English. So if you want to get some of that cash for yourself you better learn English.

The colony thing is what your teacher is most likely looking for, but really econmics is just as important.

Don't forget though, English isn't even close to being the biggest language out there.
