Stealing people's identities should be illegal

I think there should be a rule that stealing people's identities is illegal and bannable. I've posted about my experience with this here. Basically I quit for a few months and some joker told everyone he was me. He ended up conning himself onto Incuria, the squad I was on when I quit, and pissing off a lot of people, and apparently being able to use my name to get people's passwords. Stealing people's online identities is really annoying for the people who it happens to because they have built up a social identity over a long period of time, and this does a lot of damage to that, and it makes them spend a lot of time reversing the damage (i.e. if 300 people think I'm someone else, and it takes 10 minutes each to convince them that I'm not that person, that's 50 hours of time trying to fix this). Stealing people's identities in real life is illegal--so why should it be ok to steal people's online identities?

Also, I'd say if someone is low enough to steal someone's identity, it means there is a decent chance that he has done it before, and that he might do it again.

I must admit, it seems extremely lame to pretend to be someone else and there should be some sort of deterrent (risk of ban etc). It's quite a vague offence though, there's no "line" you can draw as to what is and what isn't "identity theft"

It's not that, someone just took advantage of a person retiring from the game for a longer period of time. Claimed to be Foobarz that has lost his password to Foobarz. Since the real Foobarz was fighting another cause somewhere else, he couldn't prove Jdigs wrong at that time.

No, it should be bannable. But it's a bit your own fault aswell than if you gave out your password to people you don't really know. Or change your password when you retire to kajsfhklhkljvhhfiheewihzg. Than when you get back ?lostpassword and it's all fine.
