Yes, and the mods have the power to check people's IPs. Also, it sounds like this same guy impersonated Mitch as well, and maybe other people.

The onus is on you to inform your net friends that you're leaving for a set time ect.... Also there wouldn't be a problem concerning password stealing in relation to this kind of problem if people would understand not to give it out to some random guy who says he's another unknow player. It's annoying but no practical application either from TW staff or from the community can remedy this.

Now if I lied and said I was 2d, Epi or some other staffer that's another issue but stealing some social rep or "street cred" really, lets grow up and realize that it's all just childish shit like L-K said and has little to no effect on the zone or on people therefore there should be no law against it.

Edit: BTW, smods are the only ones that can check your IP as far as I know and even then there's the problem with most ISP using DHCP to assign IPs which will cause problems matching them and will cause a backlog with only Smods having the ability to do this. I think if the person isn't stealing virtual property (IE names/passwords) and isn't doing anything out of the bounds of the preset rules (IE Racist, harassment, cheating....) then there's nothing really illegal going on here.

Kolar, I told some people I was quitting, not everyone, but enough people I guess. I didn't really want to make a big thing of it. And even if I had told everyone, Jdigs could have just said he was me and he changed his mind about quitting. Given how he tricked them about everything else I don't think he would have had a problem with this one extra lie.

Unless there was some formulaic method for people to steal other people's aliases other than ASKING FOR THE PASSWORD, I'm afraid there's nothing anybody can do about it. If of course there was some exploited password cracker designated for Continuum, something may be done then.
