  • iPod and battery life

I have a relatively nice mp3 player by Archos, 20 GB and about 14 hours of battery life. It's a little bulky, so I was thinking of switching over to an iPod whenever I had the money. My question is: How happy are you with your iPod?

PS: I've heard that iPod's battery life is a little on the weak side. Anyone know if those batteries are replacable with something longer lasting or what?

apple has a 1 year warranty. If you don't overcharge (that is, like connect it to the dock to charge and leave it on overnight) it'll stretch about 2 years. You can replace the battery anytime for $99.

I have the 40g model, of which 20g's are used for music and the other 20 carry important files for when i format my laptop.

So yeah, iPods are pretty sweet,

I usually have my ipod in the dock (either at a PC or Mac) for a few hours every other day, so consequently I have only used the AC plug to recahrge it twice. This means I have had my ipod continually ready to go for about 6 months without a signal "damn I wish it was charged right now'" moments. When I got my ipod I also snaged an external battery pack, which I have never used.

Battery life is good unless you skip through songs alot or insist on using the backlight. On a side note, It's fun to mod your graphics :>

I've always been a great Creative fan, iPods are great, gotta love them but theyre way too pricey, I just bagged myself a 30GB Creative Zen Xtra for £140. A lot cheaper than iPods which typically go for well over £200 even on eBay. Plus it has all the features and more. (Apart from games but who gives a shit?)

I predict that Dim will come brag about his very soon

EDIT: Was just comparing and the Creative player has 2 hours more battery life (14 hours total).

Yes, but if you turn back the update version history, run the normal update, and it's at factory settings again. As far as I know, if you restore the old firmware it would be very difficult to show that your firmware was differnt at some point in time and you intentionally did it. My only real concern is that the program people have been using to do this is flawed and would screw up something that controls hardware. It's been out for a while though, and I haven't seen any horror stories about it.

              get the iriver, more features.

Honestly, you might not think you need 8+ hours, but if u have friends that'll play with ur music player, u'll need more than 8 hrs.

The reason is that the HD spins everytime they play a song that isnt in the buffer, wasting battery life.

I have a 20gb ipod (generation 3) and the battery is still really strong (even higher than the rated 8 hrs) and ive been using this sucker HEAVILY for a long time.

Still, if u care about line-in, FM/AM, or any REAL features, get an iRiver.

That's just it though- I could care less about picture viewing or a radio tuner. All I want is my music, and I want as much battery life as an real mp3 player (hard drive 20GB) will offer. So far the Creative Zen is winning with a decent price and 14~ hours of battery life.

Does anyone have an iAudio mp3 player? Those look nice but a lil on the expensive side.

Plus with the Creative Zen Xtra, you get earbuds which are miles comfier than earphones which usually end up hurting or giving you earache.
