Survivors told harrowing tales of the moment the tsunami, up to 10 metres (33 feet) high, struck towns and resorts, sucking holidaymakers off beaches into the ocean and smashing people and debris through buildings.

Their death toll estimates might be a bit off but god damn. This was a horrible tragedy and I feel for any and everyone involved in this thing, be it victim, survivor or family member of either.

Besides, 35 million is chump change on a national scale. For the U.S. that's about a dime per person. I'm sure the governement has spent more money on less. If it bothers you that much, I'm sure someone else is more than willing to give you back your change if it means saving a life.
