140 mph in a volkswagen van. Has a Subaru WRX turbo engine, it's pretty weird going that fast in a bus-like vehicle.

I think you can go past the measured top speeds using torque. i think the speed values are calculated by accelerating trough horsepower only. that means, at full speed you take out gear, step on the gas untill your engine is about to explode and than put gear back in. ive seen some1 do that on the way from linz to vienna, which is basically a straight 6 lane motorway. he told me it works. it was a shit car that couldnt go beyond 140kmh the traditional way


edit: i also think that might be part of the turbo effect, that puts extra air(?) into your combustion depending on revolutions(sp)

You might be able to go a little bit faster that way for a very short distance, at the expense of destroying your engine.

agreed, but its not that this car had any value. and he maintained his speed for longer than u might think. he seemed to have a plan at what he does, like when there was a slight hill he switched back one gear to gain rpm while still not loosing to much speed - i dont switch gears on a 6 lines motorway, no matter what "hill" there is - and before he wanted to pass a car he kicked the needle in the red part of the counter. besides, why should it hurt the car? he was a mechanic and he told me it doesnt matter. tho he was a jerk so maybe he had no idea at all.

Any time you're pushing the needle into the red it's bad for the car, to do it in neutral is just asking for a meltdown.

Uhm, we have a v70 t5, if you would look at tahkis post: 250 (manual)

And like I said, it wasn't for even a second or so, It was at 220, or I dont know maybe it was just 217, around 220 and then I hit the brake again, I know I was in fifth gear and the rpm was dangerously close to the red area.

230MPH? M5's are electronically crippled way before 230 in the US. Stock M5's don't even go 200MPH. If this M5 is stock with no aftermarket parts or supercharger I doubt this.
