I'm sure you've probably read it, but (surprisingly) no one else has recommended it so I'll go with my all-time favorite: Anthony Burgess' "A Clockwork Orange". That's really all I can contribute since I spend most of my free time putting around space in a yellow ship.

I have Satan's Burger, great cover art, very suitable for reading on trains The book is good, it has ton of wicked stuff in it, it's funny, crazy, cyber-punk (I don't like the whole cyber-punk subculture but it's not that big of a deal) story. I did get bugged by those fucking little smilies that separate new parts (a lot of smilies...and the book is dark...slap in the face)

Read Bukowski as well, and of course the Johnatan Livingstone, Seagull

Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown
Last Man Standing - David Baldacci
The Once And Future King - T.H. White
Angels and Demons - Dan Brown
I heard the Wheel of Time books mentioned, those are good as well
I also suggest the Ender Quartet (A series of 4 books, Ender's Game, Speaker of the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind) by Orson Scott Card, EXCELLENT books
Along those lines there is also the parallel novels Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, and Shadow Puppets by the same author
Those 3 are part of the reason I use the "Shadow" part of my name
                  Currently listening to:
                  Valient Thorr - Immortalizer
Dead to Me - Little Brother
                  Tim Barry - Manchester
                  Lemuria - Get Better
Alkaline Trio - Agony and Irony

I've been reading a couple books of note lately, both of which I find interesting for different reasons.

How We Are Hungry - Dave Eggers
Jay's Journal of Anomalies - Ricky Jay

EDIT - RogMex, I'm also enjoying Number 9 Dream--thanks for the heads up on that one. Was a steal.

                          Those are my favorites.
I just read "State of Fear" a few days ago. His books may be mainstream and what not, but you know what, they are really entertaining to read. I've read 5 of his books and they've all kept me entertained. It won't reveal the mysteries of life to you, but you'll enjoy reading it.

Also as much as people mention Slaughterhouse-5, Cat's cradle is my favorite Vonnegut book.

been hearing a ton about dan brown, and i come home from work tonight and out of nowhere, da vinci code and angels & demons are both sitting on the end table in my living room. one of my mother's co-workers is lending them to us. guess i'll start there.

read everything orson scott card has ever written. same with vonnegut. i've read a few palahniuk novels, invisible monsters and diary. i'd like to check out his other works. dave eggers' name has popped up in more than one conversation lately, so i'll definitely be checking him out. this mellick stuff sounds like it's right up my ally, bz. i'll give that a look. and of course, anything recommending my rog should be read without question. i read everything you tipped me off to when i was feeling the wanderlust, dude. i aspire to be as cultured as you someday.

as for all the classics people are mentioning, gatsby, catch 22, 1984 and so on and so forth, it's my fault for not specifying that i'm looking for fresh stuff. i read an outright shitload of the "generally agreed upon as being classics" between senior year of high school and the end of freshman year of college. i think pretty much everyone does so at that age.

anyway, thanks dudes. i've got a long list to work my way through now. hats off to you for the assistance.

now i just need to score myself a bitchin' bookmark. the librarians always flip shit on me for dog-earing pages.
