That is sad. But what would happen if both children wouldn't live if the other child was still attached? Then you'd probably have to do it because it'll be better to save one than let both die.

Well seeing as all they were joined by was a blood vessel, it would probably be slightly more strain on all of the one child's organs, but I'm sure neither were at a high risk of dying. (Then again, I've never been good with biology so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.) I'm assuming it was just a quality of life issue. It would have been unfair to the fully developed child to have the, as they put it, parasitic child relying on it.
I'm just curious as to how the undeveloped child would have been. They didn't give much detail. It could smile and blink, but was the child's brain just as developed as the other childs? What kind of a life would it have lived if it had survived? I get the feeling the child was mentally delayed, but just barely functioning.

It brings to mind to conjoined twins who could be safely separated but choose to live together. They wouldn't have it any other way.

The host would not have lived enough of a life style to explore that option. It is inevitable to do this.

Which is the reason that this is such a sad situation. :/ There isn't, as far as I could tell from the article (though it was vague) anything else that could have been done other than to remove the second child. If only, if only we were advanced enough to save the other child... but we aren't and as sad as this is, we accept it as being needed. I'm sure the first child's life will be changed (mentaly), hopefully for the positive, because of this.

We know it couldn't live without the host with todays technologies. And you don't know how underdeveloped its brain was.

We understand that the seperation was inevitable for the sake of the developed child, we're all just saying it's a terribly sad situation and wish that there were other options.
