Hmmm I like his way of writing. I'm only on page 100 or so yet though.
But after u have read that book, you should try the Bernini Mysterie from the same writer. I have read that one, and I thought it was GREAT.
I hope Davinci Code will be as good.

I don't like the way he describes things. He doesn't write about how paris feels, he writes like a damn tour guide. This museum is over here, this church is over here, That doesn't make you feel like you're there.

the first pages were a little bit painful, but the further I get the more I'm into the story.

                '48
                (from www.James-herbert.co.uk)
In 1945, Hitler unleashes the Blood Death on Britain as his final act of vengeance. Hoke, an american pilot and one of a tiny minority with a rare blood group unaffected by the deadly disease, has survived alone among the debris and the dead of London for three years. Now, in '48, a slow-dying group of Facist Blackshirts believe their only hope is a complete transfusion of blood from one of Hoke's kind. Ever more desperate as their deaths approach, they're after his blood.

-Awesome book if you're after edge of your seat stuff. Very hard to put down. cheap on amazon.co.uk at around £1.50+

                Shadow Over Babylon

This one is about a (fictional) assasination attempt on saddam hussein, it goes very deeply into the planning and assembly of a team to do it in secret, behind governmental authorities backs.
It's a very good read also and if you're after "deep" books then look into it
It's cheap on amazon.co.uk at £1+ .. i can't be bothered to look at amazon.com right now though

I'm kind of inclined to point you towards some philosophy... but i don't really think that's the kind of thing you're looking for ^-^

I think he tries too hard to keep a frenetic pace, but a lot of people seem to like that. After a while though I found it draining. There are other ways of creating tension than by creating a mini-cliffhanger and switching scenes. If his book was a rollercoaster, it would be a non-stop series of short but dramatic hills and turns with an occasional big loop. What he's missing are those slow climbs to the top before you plummet down the steep incline.

                    Well put TK.

But fast paced, shallow text is what sells nowdays I guess..

I just finished Stalingrad by Anthony Beevor. It was very convincing.

I love Dan Brown's style of writing. Much like JK Rowling (yes, JK Rowling) He has a knack for making you want to keep reading. You're always on the edge of your seat, and I really enjoy wanting to get to the end of a book, yet wanting it to never end.
