Why do so many people love to believe in conspiracies?

I have seen a few psychological studies that indicated that humans might have an innate desire to ‘believe’ in things. Conspiracies are proabably amoung those things that people somehow 'want' to believe in.

the russians didn't like us.
they wanted to get to the moon first.

way to just believe everything they shove down your throat... have you ever heard of a little thing called the Van Allen Belt? A ring of radiation between us and the moon? Upon entering the Van Allen Belt the astronauts would've died of radiation poisining immediately. More than 6 feet of lead shielding would've been needed to protect them, and don't even say that they must've had it, because a ship made out of 6 foot lead walls couldn't fly.

Ignoring all the other evidence (and there's a lot), this is all you need... pure radiation that would KILL THEM BEFOER THEY GOT THERE! How's that for your "we must've gone because they told us they did" ass?!

And astronauts everywhere?! please tell me where they are?! oh.. the space station.. in orbit around the earth.. INSIDE the van allen belt..
