yeah that was really unsportsmanlike. But man Sokolov was being made fun of by the Canadian announcers (well not made fun of, but criticized) for not being square to the shooter pretty often. And Brodeur made a bunch of huge saves vs Russia, what were the shots? like 37? maybe more, 3 goals on 37 shots ain't too bad. One went in off Phillips' skate too so that was unlucky. all in all great tourny though. Good hockey hasn't been shown much these last few months =(

Brodeur is the weakest link in the canadian team at the moment if you ask me.

I dont know, Canadians did a lot of textbook plays that seemed really professional, but they weren't taking the body as TK mentioned, which is extremely important. Our defencemen teamwork were lacking, got caught on too many odd numbered rushes. Brodeur could've played better.

the game reeked of stickwork. was quite horrible to see. anyone else notice how lax they were on the faceoffs compared to the NHL?

The officiating overall was sub-par. In pretty much every game there were linesmen out of position, penalties that weren't called, non-penalties that were called, penalties that should have led to power-plays but didn't and face-offs being held in the wrong locations. I think the IIHF should consider adopting the two-referee system for future tournaments. The two-ref system has had mixed results in the NHL but it would be better for a shorter tournament than the long NHL 82 game schedule.

The linesman weren't doing an overall spectacular job. More than once I saw Hannan freaking out on them as they blocked his clearing attempts during penalties and the like.
