  • Play SNES games on your Modded PS2

As the title says, you need a modded PS2 for this to work. I actually had to burn it three times through trial and error to get this thing working, but it was worth it. When I'm saying you can play SNES games, I mean your SNES roms. So if you've got a nice collection, and you have a PS2, you can play your SNES games in the comfort of your living room rather than in front your stinkin 'puter. The program is called SNES Station. They have a website and all, but the burning process is not detailed enough, and you will get problems if you take their vague explanations. Here's my steps on doing it, and it worked. I'll also tell you some things that you can try doing IF you are having problems running it.
    1. First, download the RAR file here: DOWNLOAD
Extract those files into a folder that you can remember.
    2. IF you're using Nero to burn the CDR (yes its a CD-R you are using, not RW), do this:
      - With CD selected and the right drive for burning set, turn on these settings:
      No multisession
      Joliet
      ISO level 2
      Mode 2/XA
      ISO 9660
Allow more than 64 characters for joliet names
    3. Click on NEW, now drag those files you extracted earlier from the RAR you downloaded. This means the snes.emu, system.cnf and install.cnf files
    4. Create a folder called Roms in that compilation, now you should see the 3 files plus the new folder you just created sitting there.
    5. NOTE: Its best to make separate folders for the games and drag them into the Roms folder for easy access when you're navigating them in your PS2 browser, because it does get messy if you dont folder them.
    6. NOTE: I've noticed that problems may arise if you don't extract your SNES rom files, so do that.
    7. Click the BURN icon, Select Finalize CD, Disc-at-Once, write speed 2 or 4x. I had to restart twice because I originally tried burning it with 40, then 16, then I finally did it with my lowest speed 4x, and it worked.

Good luck with that and tell me if it works for you, if you need roms, i got a link or two.

If you already know this, then please enlighten us with some knowledge I haven't covered.

woah, i hate to act like a stick in the mud but I'm pretty sure these types of programs and the legality of this probably isn't too good especially being posted from a site moderator.

On a related note, Nintendo announced that the "Revolution will have downloadable access to 20 years of fan-favorite titles originally released for Nintendo 64, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and even the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)." I don't know how that plan affects their policy on emulation (Nintendo had been one of the more active companies against emulation and piracy) or whether it is limited only to Nintendo owned properties or if it would include third party games. The latter would involve a lot of licensing issues with the independant publishers. The wording of the announcement seems to imply that it would include a large library of the three systems and, if you include the ability to play Gamecube games, this would mean that the Revolution will be REALLY "backwards compatible".

The emulator (gaming unit, ex. snes system) isn't illegal too have... But the Roms (games, ex. Mario Brothers) is illegal if you have it on your system more then 24 hours of downloading it... I don't know how this works when coming to putting them on CD, but I'm sure trying to solicit them is rather highly illegal seeing as it doesn't contribute to the governments wallet...

I'm sure this isn't legit showing people how to fuck around with their ps2s, my beef is that if anyone but a staff member put something up like this it would be shot down right away.

I like standerized rules so I don't get banned from the forums again...

Modding your PS2 is legit, mod chips were made to "so-called" convert foreign title games to be playable on U.S. consoles... So that would make it legal to sell and buy...

Just like how they put a patch of tobacco in a bong and sell it in hippie stores legally... A lot of states will convict you now a days "as a felony" if they find a bong with marijuana resin in it...
