Guitar amps

i was thinking about buying a bass guitar (i now have an electric guitar and amp) so does anyone know if i can use my amp with an electric bass?
i don't see why not, but amp manufacturers seem to have both guitar amps and bass guitar amps, that's the only thing making me think twice.
so what's the diff between the two amp types?

bass amps amplify bass tones

same as ina home entertainment system, you have 2-6 "normal" speakers, plus a bass speaker to do the low frequencys.

without the harmonics, a guitar can do 82.4 Hz to 880 Hz, whereas a bass does tones of frequencies from 40 to 83 Hz

edit: 880 Hz seems quite low, the site I got that from might be listing the frequencies for the open strings, I dunno.

You can, but you run the risk of blowing out your amp. My friend did it for awhile, but he never turned it up too loud or anything, it was just for practice.

No, it doesn't, but it will if you blow out your amp, heh.

Hell, if you don't want to risk it, you could even go by a little Fender Frontman for practicing. They're not bad for how small they are.
