  • Rating Games

me and Smertin sort of had a convo about this a few days back, youve all seen game charts im sure, but these are based on sales not how good the games themselves are, some titles sell well exactly because of that, the title itself

at the moment the top 5 in the UK are
    1)Brian lara 2005
    2)Madagascar
    3)Fantastic Four
    4) MoH : European Assault
    5) Charlie and the Choccy factory <_<

3 of these games were given round about a less than average rating, yet still manage to be classed as top 5 games, we said that the top ratings should go on overall quality (or whether its World of Warcraft :mellow, or sort out a different category for this matter

    does anyone think the same?
Jarlson of> if this game was a girl i would jerk off to it every night

nopcode> sometimes get mates round, have a few beers and play this yes
    oNe-t> YEAH
    nopcode> before going out
funfunfun> god the fun never stops does it

MageWarrior> I'm so sexy, frog makes me lapdance for him daily

Critical success and commercial success are much different things for games, but the same can be said for movies, music, television and other forms of media. You always see lists of the top grossing movies, the highest rated TV shows, the top selling albums, even the Best-Selling novels. As long as these lists are identified as being "top-selling" or "most popular", then that's fine. Very rarely however do we see official lists according to the ratings of critics. The problem is that it's hard to keep lists like that because a) they are based on personal opinions which differ from person to person, b) different reviewers rate games on different scales, and c) how long do games stay on the list? (many people for example still say FF7 is the best game of all time, but it's several years old. Do you include this in that list or do you limit it to games over a resent period?). The same problems come up whether you're looking at games, movies or even books.

If you want to see lists of games according to their ratings, most gaming sites like IGN allow you to sort their reviews by ratings.
