  • The end of World War II, 60 years on

I was just reading through a bunch of old newspaper front pages from the Mainichi Daily News (An English-language daily in Japan) that they had up as part of an anniversary special. It documents the last month of the war in the Pacific up until August 17th.

Interesting to note what they thought about Hiroshima and that in fact Hiroshima didn't even make the front pages for two days and Nagasaki not at all. Also the reactions to the atomic bomb were also interesting to note as they were called the 'new type bomb' up until the announcement of the surrender when suddenly the words 'atom bomb' were used in the subheader but not explained or mentioned in the article at all.

To be fair most people wouldn't have understood about it. All they cared about, and all most people these days care about, was that it ended the war

According to wikipedi's list of wars, there have been 82 wars since 1945.

46 of these were for freedom and civil rights/liberties.
31 of these were for land
              0 of them were religion.

Really? That must be some new and ingenious concept that no one has ever conceived.

this was over communism wasnt it? near the start of the cold war, Soviets supported the north and US supported south after the japs pulled out
same with Vietnam when the french got their ass kicked and ran away (pulled out), same powers allied with same areas

but do we only count wars started after 1945? seems a bit vague doing this

I don't think Da1 was talking of cause, he was talking about "Why believe if there was so many wars?"

                      Poor reason, but whatever.

Well, more like talking about all the wars that ever were, not only since 1945. Take the crusades, for example.

You can't deny the fact that millions of people have died ONLY, and ONLY because of the little thing we call "religion".

You could even call the war between Israel and Palestina a religious war. Well, you should.

tbh id say it was more to do with a war over land and territory, but i suppose religion could be a factor too,
wars may not be only linked to religion but there are attrocities and problems too that come around due to religious beliefs

The Holocaust, Persecution of the Christians, The Srebrenica massacre, The Kurdish murders in Iraq, Northern Ireland violence, Sunni and Shite Muslims

Um, the Crusades? The war between the Muslims and Christians? Anything and everything is an excusable reason to fight... People like to blame everything they may do wrong on eveyone and everything else, so they don't have to take the consequence's of their actions... You may blame the person, but don't blame the religion/source he/she used to manipulate and misuse......

10,000,000 people may do something and it may be wrong, but doesn't mean you have to change your values because of it, use your common sense...
