I was just reading through a bunch of old newspaper front pages from the Mainichi Daily News (An English-language daily in Japan) that they had up as part of an anniversary special. It documents the last month of the war in the Pacific up until August 17th.
Interesting to note what they thought about Hiroshima and that in fact Hiroshima didn't even make the front pages for two days and Nagasaki not at all. Also the reactions to the atomic bomb were also interesting to note as they were called the 'new type bomb' up until the announcement of the surrender when suddenly the words 'atom bomb' were used in the subheader but not explained or mentioned in the article at all.
