The only Mac software I've worked with like that are MOTU Digital Performer and ProTools. Both were good--sorry that I don't have any Logic advice to give you, but my guess is that it's decent.

Reason might be a little hard one to get into, at least for me, I'm kinda lazy. I heard Guitar Rig is awesome if you have an electric guitar. It turns your computer into guitar amp with loads of different effects. Anyway, with Reason and FL Studio, a midi keyboard would be a nice thing to have I guess. I haven't found a way to create *good* melodies with just my mouse and keyboard, but then again, I'm lazy.last.fm - Keeping it short

FL Studio is more logically designed than reason. it used to be that many people could say reason was superior in many ways, but with all the tons of features added to FL Studio over the years, when it went from 'fruity loops' to FL Studio, its just FL Studio all the way. http://www.flstudio.com/
afterthat you need the best plug ins, for one example: a 4 band compressor is a must or your music will not sound anywhere near professional. i recommend Akai QuadComp. a good compressor can be placed on the master for the entire mix and sound excellent. the compressor that comes with fruity is garbage. other must haves are good effects, some effects that come with FL Studio are nto good enough. you will also need the better soft synths like for one example, the impOSCar, which is an emulation of the classic early 80s analog synth, the OSCar with added features.

plus reason is stupid. it is not even VST compatible. it comes with its own modules to emulate a rack studio and thats what you have. pattern sequencing and arranging is all made to be a pain compared to FL Studio. people who use reason use it with cubase so they can use VSTs too.

Basically Fasttrack is amiga program, many use it to make chiptunes. But you can make very nice music with it. I don't know if its too easy to use. You can import your own sounds, like .wav s, also you can rip other people's sounds from their songs, if you get your hands on a .xm file, that is the file type fasttrack makes. I think it can also make it a wav which you can convert into a mp3, if you like.
Other music related programs, Cubase, I haven't had any experience in using it, never really go to test it. Also a proffisional program.
If you are into a really easy program to make "music" with - and I mean e-a-s-y - e-jay. I don't think I need to say anything more about E-jay, it should be quite known. I don't know if the company that has made E-jay have done any more "hard-to-use" program yet. I'm not really into E-jay, I mostly just play on my KORG Triton LE.Endless space, endless exploration.

I do sound production for Local movies and bands.
It's $999, and the "is it worth it", is a question only you can answer.
The iApps are for general home use, basic to good functionality.
The ProApps however are studio level technology.
Now, if you can make said other people pay for it, I would maybe think about it, but the main question is, do you need as much kick as a professional?
I haven't messed much with Logic Pro, but my experiences going from iDVD to DVD Studio Pro, and the other Pro apps tell me that you would mostly be interested if this is something you're making money off of.

I basically just add stuff (samples and sfx) and clean it up a bit.
I do use GarageBand for my own music. Most of it can be found at www.myspace.com/sammarshallmusic

sonic foundry ACID is maybe what are you looking for stab. It works with samples which can you dwl from net. I used to work with version 2 but now version 4 is out. As far as I know up to version 3 can be "easily" made "free". For version 4 i hadnt found any "sollutions".ยจ
In acid you choose which sample should play at which volume. You can change quite decent amount of things per every sample + plugins are available. I think its definatelly worth a try. U can do both rock or techno with that chill out is suported too. All depensd of loops you can gather.
Also its good to piont out that its different from Traktor studio which is supposed for live mixing. ACID is for creating "songs" or "tracks" offline.Plutarch: "To find a fault is easy; to do better may be difficult."

http://www.modplug.com/
Check out Modplug, you can get Modtracker to make your own music. I think this is better than midi, since you can samples, not just synth sounds.
There is also many mod, s3m, it, xm2, files composed, there is like thousands of songs out there made in these formats.
I remember this format way back when I had an Amiga 500 computer.
Lots of cracking and demo groups used this format for their intros or demos.

you can use samples, Soft synths, even spice samples and edit them in a built in editor and all on FL Studio. FL Studio is the best option. its also designed very logically, you have a pattern sequencer that makes perfect sense, then a window called 'playlist' which uses bars on a grid to take the patterns and arrange them into a song, not to mention a spot to place waves like a vocal or insturmental to mix in. it also has 64 channels, each of which you can apply several effects onto. www.flstudio.com
