  • New iPod Nano

I saw one of these... it looks awesome.

But the thing is, since is so small, I think is so fragile?

anddd I also heard ppl complain because the thingy overheats when it plays songs too long or something...

It looks nice though =) Even though I would like a iPod Shuffle

What do you guys think of the Nano? worth buying? Anyone already have one?

I heard on the news today that the Nano's are very fragile, many have been sent back due to cracked displays. Although Apple says that it was just a 'bad batch.'

    I won't be buying one. I bought a 256mb mp3 player for 40 pounds, that's all I need and I'm happy with it.

If it didn't cost like $300, I'd totally get one, except I can be really clumsy and drop things a lot so I'd end up breaking it in like 24 hours

I think they made little wristbands to stick it on, which would prevent that pretty much, but wouldn't that feel way weird walking around with attached to your arm? I dunno, it might be worth it. I just know that I'd lose it or break it easily and it'd end up being a waste of a lot of money.

They are cool, but I need the 20gb. I could use a 60gb if I had it.

My friend bought it it's pretty light, and it looks cool. He has to always keep in check that it's safe. I think i'll stay with my sony e507s it has 1 gig, its only 285. It's also sturdy I don't know how many times i've dropped it, but it still works.

I've had a 20 gig for a while and these things peaked my interest, so I got a black colored 2 gig (1000 songs, approximately) one. $229 with the student discount. I've had it 2 weeks and already dropped it a couple times and it's fine. They're about as sturdy as something that small could possibly be, in my opinion.

One thing I can sympathize with is the paranoia. It's so small, so expensive and so popular that I'm constantly checking to make sure I know exactly where it is...which isn't necessarily that difficult of a task, but it definately can cause some worry.

On the positive side: completely badass. The only shame is that they don't make one bigger than 2 gigs. This thing is perfect for when I'm walking to class, working out (i could never run with the clunky 20gig one) or just studying. It's the perfect size for just slipping into my pocket. I bought the armband for it and you can disconnect the little plastic case from the band, so I just keep it in that. Color screen, all the advantages of an iPod, and as thick as a pencil.

Bottom line, I dig it. Worth buying.

EDIT: I have an iPod shuffle too...if you don't feel like dropping that much coin on a nano, that's your next best bet.

For a good review, check this article for information about the iPod nano, including how it handles when dropped, thrown, run over by a car (twice), etc.

But there have been a lot of complaints saying it gets scratched too easily.

Or if you don't like looking / don't need to look at a screen.

two days ago I found out that my old 4g ipod was missing, so naturally I was like "YES I CAN GO GET THE NANO NOW!" But then I realized the right thing to do would be to actually look for my old one.

To my disappointment I found it.

And yes, the nanos are awesome. I played with it at the tech shop here at the IST bldg... it does seem kinda brittle cuz its thin like a wafer but after trying to bend it a few times I think its pretty ok. The unit gets kinda warm but not uncomfortably so... its kinda like a cell phone if you talk on it for about an hr it gets kinda warm.

All in all, i dont think its worth the 250 price tag for the 4 gig model... but yes, they are incredibly cool. And it comes in black. Yay.

ipods just have fucking good soundquality too (compared to other mp3-players). I think I will exchange my mini for a nano, because the only reason I bought the mini over a 20gig ipod was the size, and this one is even smaller!

I bought a nano the day they came out. Excellent player - it has the very best sound quality of any mp3 player I've tried.

They are highly durable and just will not break... there's this blogger who bought a 2 gb one just to destroy. He ended up dropping it from very high places then running it over with a car... several times. It took a massive amount of abuse and kept on ticking.

One word of warning, I've noticed that they're somewhat prone to scratching. They'll scratch quite easily due to the soft polycarbonate screen it has. This is okay because you can easily polish it (or any other plastic object with scratches) out using something like Meguier's Plaxtix plastic cleaner and polish. The day I got mine I put a fairly decent scratch in it by putting it into my pocket with my keys. Never again - it's going to need a case before it goes back in there.
