There is an ad here in Canada about illegally installing TV satalite dishes. It's terrible. Alot like those anti-drug ads in the USA. Very over-dramatic and dark, gloomy. It's got some guy regretfully explaining "I used to be installing 2 or 3 a week" as if it's some terrible crime. lol. Nobody gives a shit about installing dishes... It's just paid for by the guys that sell them, I guess. Hahaha...

I don't want nerdy people in bars that I'm in, does that mean I should go and try to make a law about it and keep you out? No, if I walk into a bar full of nerdy people, I just leave them be and get out of the bar really fast.

I still think its absolutely ridiculous not to merely let the market dictate smoking in public places. Don't want to work in a place where people smoke, don't do it! Don't have anywhere else to work? Move! Get a high-school diploma! Fix the problem!

Don't like smoke in public places? DON'T GO TO BARS! PEOPLE SMOKE IN BARS, THAT'S WHAT THEY DO! It's entirely legal to build a smoke-free bar in a place where they aren't required, but does anyone do it? No, because nobody would go. It's absolutely ridiculous to make it illegal.

To keep this on topic, one of my least favorite anti-smoking commercials is the one where the girl runs around licking really disgusting stuff and they're like "blah blah blah, it's not as gross as smoking." Of COURSE it's grosser than smoking, that's why lots of people smoke and nobody licks trash can lids, morons. I also think it's interesting that the majority of anti-smoking ads (most paid for by cigarette companies, of course) feature ridiculously dorky kids that nobody that has any designs on getting laid would ever emulate.

another thought on the smoking, people who say "it doesnt work, even though the majority of people dont want smoking, the smokers are enough to sway most social groups to accepting it" this isnt true. as an infrequent smoker, it really annoys me to go to a bar, club, or concert where they dont allow smoking, but i completely understand if they dont allow it at a nice restaurant. GASP, the market is pretty similar. i cant recall a nice restaurant (or a fast food restaurant for that matter) where they allow cigarettes (some allow cigars, but whatever), the market has adjusted that.

okay new rule for this thread, every time you post you have to talk about a commercial you dislike, i know theres lots of them. i hate the coors light commercial where they show all the patriots fans in boston and its like 300 degrees there, what the fuck, maybe there was one preseason game up there when its too hot? tom brady is a smarmy fuck and neither he or his team should be featured in any commercials, ill be shocked if they make it past the wild card round of the playoffs this year. boston, you and your republican sports stars are done being in the spotlight.

edit: whoa never occurred to me, coors is republican, tom brady is republican, the team has american flags on the helmets essentially... could that be why this nonsensical commercial is in boston?

In regards to the smoking thing, I'm not pro-ban although I don't smoke either. The only thing that pisses me off is when smokers blow their smoke into other people, it's just fucking rude. In most cases though, if you're in a situation where people are smoking it's not to hard to get upwind or out of the area of the smoke.
