I definetely thought that they would be committing suicide or something.

Edit: Instead of volunteering to wipe out the human race to save the world, they should be acting to conserve what we have.

This is actually something that I argue in debate. I say hey, let's LET the other team's impact happen, because death via a nuclear war, and even the resulting radiation poisining, is infinitely better than say, surviving and then being enslaved by aliens who torture us for all eternity.

There's evidence. It's amazing.

But I think it's stupid if you actually believe in it.

Seriously though within the next 500 years only 1% of the Earth's species will go extinct, the 40 or so dying out a day is a lie. We are impacting our enviroment but not as much as it is popularly perceived.
Removing generations of children and wishing and waiting for our entire species demise is pretty silly and won't solve any of our problems but because the "movment" its self has no coherent religious, political, and philosophical views I can hardly argue with them. Do what you want with your life and enjoy the extra :greedy: and time without a family, I'm sure it will make up for it.

Well that's pretty simple, the way you make it sound is either a choice between moderate pain and eventual death, or constant suffering. Not too hard to see which one is better.

No hope for the future though? What, us humans can't pull some hollywood mess and rise up and beat the aliens, ensuring the survival of mankind?

I like to think there is hope in humanity but it worries me that so many otherwise smart people give up hope. Giving up and wanting extinction is the easy way out.

There will be a point where Earth will no longer be able to handle the population of people, and then more drastic measures will be taken. I.E. the "One Child Law" was somewhat to that affect - because the geographics (and economics) of China as a nation could not support continuous population increases. The only problem now is that there will be a growing senior population (my parent's generation) that will be dependent on their only child for support. The situation will become more apparent as they approach their 60s and 70s, in the next couple of decades.

I see India as the 2nd country doing something like this, as their population is to exceed China's in the near future.

On this matter, I don't think "voluntary extinction" is the answer, but rather a sense of social responsibility when a couple decides to have a child. I realize this won't be a problem in America anytime soon, but it has already become a problem in other countries. It makes me sad to see that people argue about abortion, when they ignore the fact that the child might not have food, clothes, proper education, etc. And the fact that there are children out there RIGHT NOW that needs these things.
