  • Alito has Spoken

    http://msnbc.msn.com/id/11136502/

So, being that O'Connor and Rehnquist are gone, we have 2 new Justices, one of whom just had his first hearing today, where he sided opposite what most people expected him to.

I gotta say, I kinda hope Alito pulls a Souter, and becomes a hardline Liberal, just so that Bush fucks up something else. I love seeing our president with egg on his face :P

Anyway, if this is any indication of things to come, then the court has not changed at all, with 4 liberals, 3 Conservatives (Roberts taking over Rehnquist's position as the third), and two Moderates (Alito and Kennedy).

But, then again, we'll see where this guy stands on the big issues, namely: Gay Marriage and Abortion.

I'm betting he's just playing it Cautious, in this overpoliticized climate he doesn't want his history to read '1st ever Supreme Court decision was in favor of an execution, after having just been appointed' so Democratic attack ads can use it in some other election.

Oh, and say goodbye to Roe.

      =P

To clarify, what I meant was he wouldn't want it to be used as ammo against Conservatives in the future.

Alito is not a dumb man.

Ha, no, I mean that it will make things alot more media friendly for the Conservatives if Democrats can't run commercials to the effect of 'ROFL SEE, 10 MINS ON THE COURT AND HE'S LETHAL INJECTING PPL, ZOMG THEY ARE WHACKOS!'

                I'm very worried about Roe.

And it's not Alito that worries me, it's Kennedy.

I mean, I'm pretty sure Alito will side with Thomas, Scalia, and Roberts on abortion....But Kennedy is a toss up. He's voted both pro, and against Abortion, and seemingly changes his mind every other day. But, even if Roe v. Wade is overturned, abortion wont disappear. If it were to be overturned, then it would drop to the state courts, and being that I live in the Third most liberal state (next to California and Oregon), I have a feeling that we'll still uphold abortion.

I would be more worried about other laws like in Kansas, which states that it is illegal to have any type sexual relations for those between the ages of 16,17 & 18. 18? come on...you can vote for the president, buy a pack of smokes, fight an unjust war and kill people, yet you cannot have a sexual relationship with anyone? This is law in more than just Kansas...I think it is over 10 States that have this as part of there State Laws.

If these age groups seek any form of contraception, they are to be reported to the authorities.

Is it me or have many of the political leaders in this country lost there minds? It's as if the US Govt. is becoming an equal to the Taliban in some ways, pushing there moral beliefs on everyone as law.

                  WTF!
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

Yeah it will drop to state courts.

LOL? I don't think you need to worry about Kennedy man, at least not at this point.
Hell, he'd vote for a statue of Black Jesus in Times Square if it meant he could piss Republicans off.

We have some pretty ridiculous and poorly thought out laws in States everywhere. They are generally VERY rarely enforced.
I believe Sodomy is still illegal in Texas but there are plenty of Gay Guy's in TX.

                      *Wink Wink* Hi P H ;D

I dunno, Kansas is an ass-backwards state.
I think they are still having a fierce Schoolboard debate about 'Intelligent Design'.
