Her time period of basically being "untouchable" really depends on how liberal your friend is, how close they were, and how strong the friendship is. I mean there was this girl I liked that my friend hasn't dated since 8th grade, and he still doesn't want me around her.

my girlfriend of three years is a girl a friend of mine dated for 10 months. i felt pretty bad about it, but he treated her kind of badly, and moved far away and was pretty much never coming back home. also, he had another girlfriend. so, i dont know. its bad but its not the end of the world. dude and i get along fine.
