I like how the non-Americans are stupider and more close-minded than the more aware Americans, on this board, concerning issues of foreign policy. You're preaching to the choir dumb fucks, and nobody likes to hear preaching.

What are your views then on American foreign policy? Don't just call people stupid, express your opinion and engage people. I hope enough Americans do this at least in real public forums that matter even if it has been said and asked 15 billion times.

There was an interesting news programme on tv tonight. It set aside about 20 minutes to follow a group of young US ex-soldiers who had done their term in Iraq and had come home, quit the army and were now protesting against the war. Vietnam vet style. They were doing a protest march called ‘walking to new orleans’ I think, I guess it’s named after the song.

I know there’s two sides, three sides, or whatever, to all these arguments over the war, and some of the people who joined them on the march would clearly be happy stood next to anyone holding a ‘Peace’ banner. But they were intelligent, articulate, slightly traumatised, but generally thoughtful people and they had some pretty disturbing things to say.

This summary is shit, but essentially they were told to treat all Iraqis the same, so none of this ‘we’re liberating this guy but that other guy’s an insurgent’ rubbish. They were also told they had a freehand to kill anyone, threat or not, and were actively encouraged to kill people when on patrol after dark, threat or not, with no questions asked. There was more but those two stick in my mind. I haven’t done this much justice. You’ll have to watch it yourselves and make your own opinions.

What I’m curious about is what coverage this kind of stuff gets in the mainstream media in the US. CNN is usually one of the better US news providers but I searched there and found nothing. The way it was done almost had the feel that it was smuggled out.
