In England, when we eat rice, it's usually in a form similar to this: http://www.cullyandsully.com/pressph...en%20curry.JPG and we use a knife and fork.

The thing about emptying the bowl is cultural. In Britain, you generally leave a little food to show the host that they have been hospitable enough to fill you - that makes them happy. In some Asian places, or so i've heard, they get offended if you don't finish everything they give you.

    Any more takes on this?

And you don't get to join the clean plate club.

I never eat rice out of a bowl (I don't even have bowls) and when I'm finished, I put my knife and fork facing 5 o'clock knife on the right. I do get kinda pissed off if I make dinner and someone doesn't finish.

i am currently picking the leftover rice with my fingers.
most of the time my bowl is clean, but probably some is left over. meh
and i put my chopsticks both ways (on top of the bowl, and to the side on the plate). I never did grow up knowing too much of these superstitions, so that is probably why i dont really care much. I usually just try to be polite and finish my meal. :)

I have always learned to put my knife and fork on the same side of the plate to show you're done.
