One hundred years of solitude by Marquez is definately among the best books I've read in my life.

The Dark Tower series I found really boring, well the 2nd book to be exact. The part where Roland just drags himself on the beach was so fucking boring that I stopped reading there. A friend of mine said it gets alot better after the 2nd book however.

We were in Auschwitz by Tadeusz Borowski is one of the finest books I've read in awhile, but it isn't really among the happiest books around so I'm not sure if it will be a good summer read.

Well Deception Point is pretty avg/bad compared to Da Vinci or Angels and Demons. To me, Angels and Demons is his best.

The Bourne triology is kinda a fun read if any of you liked the movies.

If you do ever read the entire Dark Tower series, take special note to stop reading at the end of Book 7 when King mentions that you should stop. If you read past that point, you will regret it.

                Get The Popcorn

Because that's exactly what I was getting at. You win again.

If you're wanting to read this book for leisure, more power to you. But in my opinion, this isn't a relaxing, leisurely work to read during the summer. Which is what summer reading should be.

                An excerpt:

"Who first seduced them to that foul revolt?
Th' infernal Serpent; he it was, whose guile
Stirred up with envy and revenge, deceived
The mother of mankind, what time his pride
Had cast him out from heav'n, with all his host
Of rebel angels, by whose aid aspiring
To set himself in glory above his peers,
He trusted to have equaled the Most High,
If he opposed; and with ambitious aim
Against the throne and monarchy of God
Raised impious war in heav'n and battle proud
With vain attempt. Him the Almighty Power
Hurled headlong flaming from th' ethereal sky
With hideous ruin and combustion down
To bottomless perdition, there to dwell
In adamantine chains and penal fire,
Who durst defy th' Omnipotent to arms."

This is what...maybe half a page? Out of 542. 542 pages (and that's only Book I). And I tried to choose one of the more interesting passages. Now, If you're wanting to increase your intellectual street cred with scholars, historians and the trench wars forums crew, this is your book. But make no mistake about it, this book is a huge challenge, most of the time not an enjoyable one. It's comparable with something like Ulysses; blandness and extreme detail emcompasses this book.

I just finished reading Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore. Now I'm setting out to read The Last Templar. Then The Hobbit.

Somehow I doubt that the majority of the "trench wars forums crew" even knows what this book is.

Thanks for your input. Rest assured, I have been made well aware that this a daunting piece of work. Although I probably won't be able to tackle it immediately due to education and working constraints, I'll let you know when I'm finished.

A rather smug reply. Be sure to wear your monacle and smoke your pipe while you read the book.

Only one of the single most known books in the world, and required reading for most 10th, 11th or 12th grade honor students in just about every school system I've ever known.

Do you think you are proving something by reading this snorefest? No, you are just proving you got a shitty education and didn't have the chance to read it then.

It doesn't make you sophsticated, it doesn't make you any more intelligent, and it doesn't make you intellectual. It makes you a dick bag. So go fuck yourself.

                          Or as Milton would say:

"The penis would breach your anus
so hard it will thrust when it goes in.
Yourself wouldst do it, upon your body
insert and out, insert and out."

One summer, a friend of mine introduced me to the Sword of Truth series, by Terry Goodkind, starting with the first in the (so far) 9 book series: Wizard's First Rule. I agree with Pearl Jam - a summer book should be an easy, fun read, and that's exactly what this is. If you like fantasy novels, epic stories, action, and a little bit of philosophy thrown in, this one's for you.

                            (cue Reading Rainbow theme)

I've heard that there was a direct correlation between the regular consumption of McDonald's and increased aggression.

I've seen all the proof I need.
